(2015) C Thomas Bryant to IU

so what does that tell us? It means that Crean didn't evaluate them well enough and like the movement, would have had a stud class on paper and crapped the bed again...

Btw, I think tumtum looks pretty good

That's what it tells you now.  Let's check in 2 or 3 years down the road and see how they are doing after they get some experience and a chance to develop.  That's where I think we fall short---not enough upperclassmen with experience.  Maybe---just Maybe Crean and Izzo and all the other coaches that evaluated them did get it right--we shall see.

this is my take as well. Lyles would have been exactly what we need. Goodluck would have helped as a rim protector. Robinson wouldn't have helped much this season but he'll be good. Clark would have been in Holt's role but an upgrade. Tum Tum is solid, but we don't need him. Bluiett would have helped a lot. Anthony Lee would have helped too.

Too many other misses to fully evaluate but based on what we are getting from Priller, April, Z, Holt, and Hoetzel we could be a much better team if Crean had won his guys. Holt and Hoetzel have long term promise. Z is a decent addition. I love his enthusiasm. IDK, it all goes back to missing on bigs and then taking Priller and April.

Kansas goes out last minute and gets a foreign big who now starts for them. Purdue's Isaac Haas. Onuaku for Louisville. Transfers up the wazoo. Other teams addressed needs late. Crean whiffed over and over and now we are deficient.

So from your summary we can say that Izzo, Roy Williams, Dave Rice and Billy Donavan don't evaluate players well enough since those are the guys who signed those players that Crean didn't' "evaluate well enough".

those coaches have 5 National Championships and their seasons and job did not depend on those recruits like Crean. Those guys are not focal points on those teams so it is ok that they may take time to develop. Just about all of those guys would have been needed to start or play a significant role early at IU. Big difference

I've been part of it, but let's try to move the non-Thomas Bryant conversation into "the state of IUBB" thread or one similar.

I fully understand how derailing happens but a recruiting thread isn't the best place.

And yes, I know I've been part of the problem at times, I am now trying to be part of the solution at least when it comes to recruit threads.

Thanks in advance.

Funny how TB goes to UK, isn't the focal point/isn't offered, then says he isn't going to UK so don't get the rumors started, just visiting with a friend. UK fans say, we didn't want you anyway. TB then gets an offer and both he and the UK fans sing Coombaya

So--what is Calipari's new sales pitch to Bryant and others?

Maybe Calipari says "Gentlemen---come to UK where you have never had to work hard on academics and now we have sweetened the deal where you don't even have to work hard on basketball anymore to get drafted by the NBA---I can turn you into a millionaire and all you have to do is work 17 minutes a game and average 7 or 8 points and rebound or block a shot when you feel like it."

It's ridiculous when you think about it----and the NBA will be drafting on potential because they are not going to see substantial minutes or great stats.  I know these are 5 stars but some may be able to sneak into the NBA with very little productivity and without actually proving they are ready.

Of course--what does Calipari care---he will just replace them more 5 stars the next year!

Nice little system he has going.  Sickens me.

Posted Nov. 25th, Bryant's mother stated that Bryant's list has "been realistically trimmed to IU and Syracuse, it might be down to one soon. Thomas has always told me that Syracuse was the leader. "

As for the failed drug tests and other mis haps, his mother stated, "They have a lot going on" "it seems like we went down there under false pretenses, they didn't tell us anything about failed drug tests or that type of thing going on, my son doesn't need to be around that stuff"

Yeah I was obviously joking about those coaches but besides Devin Robinson the rest of the guys I've named are playing a good amount of minutes. Every one of them is averaging close to 20 min a game, which is a pretty big role. Plus Goodluck is starting for UNLV and playing more minutes than Hanner. Hanner has a better scoring average by 5 points and Goodluck has a better rebound average by 1 rebound. So a few of those guys that I named are probably playing around the same minutes that they would've here.

Sorry to hijack the thread again, just had to get my two cents in. Appreciate the banter MikeRoberts

It's part of the same article already posted and discussed here. About how IU deceived them.

With any luck, Syracuse will lose a couple of scholarships because of their malfeasance and it won't matter who was in the lead.
