Hoosier 7 ft Man O' Mystery Sweepstakes

Recommended Posts

Missing the practice time isn't just a little throwaway line. It's a huge deal. He's basically missed July through a couple days ago. We had freshmen that played a ton last year still looking confused at times late in the season.

It's also not just about knowing the plays, but it's also about knowing them with the guys you're on the court with. He may have never walked through the plays with Priller at the same time (as they can both be 5's at times in Crean's system) which can cause confusion.

Not worried about April's instincts, but I am very concerned about the complete lack of understanding of the offense and his role in it. I know the retort will be that he hasn't practices due to injury and all, but it didn't appear that he knew the plays at all. All that time to know the playbook and he looked like Tijan at the top of the key. The warning signs were there...I mean he did commit to the University of Indiana. Writing this one off...he be gone in a year or so.

If we're chronicling 7-footers let us never forget the amazing Uwe Blab.

Meanwhile...I thought April looked very smooth, showed decent hands and appeared he knew what he was doing out there. Enough that I'd be giving him as much PT as possible in hopes he might be Big Ten material, after all. Of course, he was playing against reserves of a bad team, but bad-hands big guys stick out in any crowd.

Unfortunately we will need him some this year. I wish we could have red-shirted him. I think he will be a decent big when he's a junior. I saw a lot of positives too, but it will definitely take time. Loved his jumper.

Incrediboy---I lived through the Uwe Blab years at IU---he did improve as he went along.  We need to give April a chance to do the same!

The story I always heard---don't know if it's true---is that Blab had bad vision and no one knew it---they got him contacts---and he was finally able to catch the ball!  Could be true---or more fables from Knight--but a great story!

April seems to have decent hands and a decent shot and good passing---things to work with!

Uwe Blab Was First team all Big Ten his senior year and unstoppable down low.

This crowd would have ran him off after his freshman year if the current coaching staff didn't do it first.

April already has hands twice as good and looks to hold position well in the block. Will we get a chance to develop like the big red head did? I'd love to see it but doubt it happens.

Good point Woodson----I agree that a deserved criticism of the program is people transfer before they get a chance to develop.  Why---I am not sure---but I don't like it.  We need experienced players too---especially bigs.

Blab was solid as a senior---would love to see April get that chance as well!

The transfers are nationwide. The numbers this season was much larger than ever before. This is not just an IU problem, it exists throughout every program. It is not something I Luke, it just is a part of the whole NCAA.

I agree with what u r saying but this is the exact reason I dont like the oversigns. I like r team so far this year but we know that a few r leaving this year no matter what and that is what I dont like.

That's not exactly accurate. We know everyone on scholarship is likely to not be on scholarship next year, but we don't know what various scenarios are. Could be different things for multiple players and not have a single 'ran off' transfer

Interesting idea. I strongly suspect the reason for that is based on how the staff seems to prefer to over recruit every year and we do have periods where a lot of kids transfer that are not getting time. So it is not so much us running them off but an acceptance that this seems to be what happens here.

I would love to see this staff take a few mid ranked bigs and develop them over the years.

1)  Tijan Jobe career IU totals: 15 points, 31 rebounds

2)  Bawa Muniru IU career totals; 11 points, 13 rebounds

3)  Peter Jurkin IU career totals: 2 points, 4 rebounds.

4)  Jeremiah April IU career totals: 2 points, 2 rebounds.

The boot is off, Jeremiah's only one game in, and he's already almost in third place in the "Hoosier 7 ft Man O' Mystery" Sweepstakes!   :dancer:

Updated totals. Look out PJ...two more rebounds and one more point and he's gotcha!

Except for PJ and his injuries and Guy Marc and his elegibility, I never understood why Bawa and Jobe didn't play more. Especially earlier in the seasons against cupcakes when that is when they played anyway. Give them more minutes to see if something can be done like with Blap before. You just can't coach 7', and it really makes the staff look bad on three counts. 1. You can't develop projects. 2. You can't recruit projects. 3. You may get run off. I would rather see coach make the commitment to stay with these project centers if they are in good academic standing. Its not their fault Coach offered a scholarship.
