JBJ - How Long?

Recommended Posts

If he has a chance of being a lottery pick, I think he is gone.

However, isn't this upcoming class loaded with guards?  I think it will be very difficult for him to be a lottery pick this year.

Ryan Boatright, Harrison, the kid from Duke (forgot his name), etc.

I think 2 years and he will be repeatedly mentioned.

Ryan Boatright isn't getting much love, and he shouldn't. Unless he has a Shabazz like year he is a second round guy, if even drafted.

And not really with guards. It is loaded in the front court and wing position.

Blackmon reminds me a LOT of a more athletic Jay Edwards. Smooth shooter, kind of glides when he runs.A better finisher at the rim.  Not sure how that translates to todays NBA. But, I don't remember Edwards having a very long career back when he played. Kind of a tweener. I see him being a 2 yr player unless something happens with the coaching staff. Then all bets are off.

The extent of Jay Edwards' NBA career was playing a handful of games for the Clippers. Edwards got some really bad advice about leaving school, and took it. Basically, that move ruined any chance he had at a career. He averaged about 20 points/game in his sophomore year, but clearly needed another year or two to mature and develop his game.

JBJ, on the other hand, has a dad who’s been there, who knows "what's what", and who will advise him wisely. And IMO, JBJ's game is far more advanced and polished than Edwards' game was. I do see a similarity, but JBJ is much farther along in the development process, won’t stay at IU any longer than Edwards did (IMO), and will have a good pro career.

BTW, Edwards was involved in some sort of domestic violence issue shortly after being drafted by the Clippers. There were also reports of some drug issues.

I cant see JBJ guarding a single 2 guard in the league right now. It's not all about scoring.

I know this was a serious question, but I can't help but think to myself "The guy hasn't scored an official point yet." I don't mind if folks are curious, say, at the beginning of conference play, but let's take a step back. Blackmon is good, when he fully commits himself to playing defense, he could be great.
