Can Crean stay in Bloomington?

Recommended Posts

My exact thought. Who do people think we are going to bring in?? People need to realize that Brad Stevens is living it up in the NBA and loving it.

I fall somewhere in the middle on this one. I don't think we get Stevens though I would love to have him. I also don't think Crean is the best we can land and we should keep him around for that reason. This program can still land a top flight coach. Just have to make the investment. Not ready to throw out any names just yet.

I agree with you there Hoosier in AZ---he has to deliver this year for me to stay on board by at a minimum getting back to the tourney. If he does not---he loses my support.  He's had 2 McDonald AA's the last 2 years and many other 4 stars---we have to win with that talent and win now.  And that winning is on Crean. IMO he will not survive if we miss 2 tourneys in a row! The buyout will occur.

I still think he gets it done and I am rooting for him to do so!

Kinda new here-I haven't even figured out how to like others post and I will put in a pic...when I figure that out also-but I'm gonna give this a shot.
My expectation of Indiana is that they win and they do it in an honorable way.
While I would like to win with the regularity that UK has the last few years if we have to play fast and loose with the rules I'll pass.
One of the biggest things that bothers me about Crean is the over signing of recruits. We promote Indiana as a family and basically we are telling some family members every year...YOU ARE NOT GONNA BE HERE NEXT YEAR! You don't necessarily need to fill every scholarship every year. Kids and their families see this and I believe it makes it very difficult to get some recruits with the quality of character that we are looking for.
As for this year. No more incidents...out of ANYBODY! If there is send them packing! This doesn't just mean from players who have had previous problems. I mean anybody and everybody. Take a stand! If you are unwilling to take a stand as a coach then I can't stand with you as a fan. We've had some bad years but that didn't cause me to withdraw my support as a fan! But unwillingness to take a firm stand makes me disgusted.
I do believe that for Crean to remain as coach he will need to make the NCAA tournament this year and to be perfectly honest I don't know that the personnel is there to do that. We are going to get killed inside unless someone comes up as a HUGE surprise!
I really feel like our best shot at winning this year is to play the style that UK did during Pitinos first few years. Push it hard, speed the game up, aggressively look for the three, press and try to turn the other team over a lot. We play half court and we'll get murdered.

Well, I'm new here too and still trying to figure it out but it appears you can have a negative opinion on Crean here which is no longer allowed on ITH. Anyway, yea I voiced my displeasure with the constant oversigning and always took alot of heat for it.

Is just making the tourney enough? It seems to me based on our talent making the tournament should be expected, not a big accomplishment.

What if we make the tourney the next 5 years and over that time win just 2 tourney games? Is that enough.

Yeah hypotheticals but I keep seeing making the tourney as some threshold to keeping Crean. That might be the bare minimum but I expect more.

He did it before when he built the 12-13 team so I think he can, but the recruiting downturn has me concerned. Just making it this year, without some strong encouraging signs for the next few years would be disappointing.

I was over at ITH for a long time and I came away with the exact opposite feeling. I felt like if one constant said positive things, you were labeled a "sunshine pumper" or a koolaid drinker. For awhile it was the same around here. People said that people like me who liked to think in only positives couldnt handle "the truth". Welcome aboard none the less

When the fans start voicing their opinions with the pocketbook that can get pretty powerful, quick.

In other words the only fans that really have a voice are the donors cause they bring the big bucks

The fans do have a voice and they r being heard loud and clear believe me. As others have mentioned if attendance drops and just the overall interest from them goes away in a big number change will happen. If we win a bunch this year I think u can win back 90% or more of them

I'm perfectly fine with anyone who likes Crean. Thats an opinion and thats great. Just don't attack me personally for wanting him gone Which is what I dealt with regularly. You can be respectful and still disagree which is how I try to be.

We should expect to be in the dance every year. That is the minimum expectation for this fan. When he have assembled the level of talent that we had in 2013, and that we have again this year, I expect more. Much more. Sweet 16 is nice. But with #1 seed talent, we need(ed) to go farther.

I am not sure what I expect out of this team, but with the shooters what we have, I could see getting to the round of 32 or eve Sweet 16. The only issue for this team is the hole in the middle.

Flavoraid! Come on guys!

The only for sure way to stay is tourney this year, get Zimmerman, have Zimmerman refuse to play for anyone else.

Great points Laz and coonhounds---if the fans quit coming---Crean will go running.

BBall is the bread and butter of IU's sports revenues.

But--IU fans are among the most loyal in the world and usually will show up no matter the record of the team.

Still--the negative press and disgruntled fanbase has to be hurting Crean---and IU. The administration and donors have to be watching this closely too! They will make a change if there is no tourney and no improvement in the off court crud.

The little guys still have a voice to a certain extent. I'm 3 hours away and usually go to a game or two. We decided not to this year. Yea, its just a few seats in the balcony but if others do the same it starts to add up.

I won't say what he HAS to do here bc we don't know what Glass has planned. But barring a total collapse, I say we have him for a minimum of this season and next. Then, they will review and go from there. Just my 5 cents

Also just want to add that I am NOT a CTC fan. Never have been since day one. I personally think he is a great person, but being a good person doesn't mean you're a basketball coach. I think that he would make one hell of a associate head coach. Lol, seriously
