Game 3: SMU question

Recommended Posts

Yeah I never really had Stan starting in the first place. He's a good sixth man. And I know we need Troy to start that game and play starter's minutes, but I think it might throw things off.

let's hope not but either way if he starts or comes off the bench his athleticism is undeniable and he won't come off the bench for long

Nope. No argument here on that. One or two games at most if he doesn't start. Excited to see him play.

Troy will start.

Stan will probably be first off bench, we'll need his defense. His D>RoJo's at this point.

We are going to need them a lot against SMU.

We also need to hope Markus Kennedy for SMU is still unable to play, if not, were going to get torched down low.

After chewing on this for a bit, I think that whatever Crean decides to do is really the "right" thing. He sat these guys down for disciplinary reasons. The sentence will have been served. That makes it a clean slate. It doesn't mean that he lets up on observing their actions on/off the court, but once they’ve served their time, and they’re reinstated, I say "go for it".

My only concern is for the players who did keep their noses clean and who filled the gap created by these guys and their selfish indulgence. It seems like a tough thing for them. But life is tough at times. Man up.

Also,

I think there is a big, big benefit for players to get 20-35 minutes to reach their flow, I liked that our best players were near 30 minutes tonight.

IMO come Big Ten time

Yogi, Blackmon should be in the 30-35 range.

Troy, Ziesloft, Perea in the 25-30 range.

Stan, Rojo in the 20-25 range.

That doesn't leave much left but

I expect Holt, Max, Hartman to fight for the remaining minutes

I don't see April getting run. Prayers go out to DD, but it looks like a missed season for DD, and fan favorite MSB is still likely to get mop up duty.

Burton and Ritchie may fight for minutes here and there depending on injuries and focus issues.

A nice tight 8-9 man rotation seems like plenty.

I think Max will get more minutes then you expect. He has a sick wingspan (7'3 compared to HMP's 7'4) and with DD out for the season he may spend a little time in the frontcourt.

No way Stan and Troy should start if the other guys go in unbeaten.  Bring them in off the bench---which Troy will not be on for long as we need his rebounding.

Stan better watch out---Z has an opportunity to challenge for his spot with great play in the first 4 games.

My 2 cents.

Having seen IU's current options at the 4 during the exhibition, Crean would have to be hitting the hookah pretty hard to not start Troy...

Stan has relegated himself to the 5th guard in the rotation and has been on thin ice since June, Zoloft and RoJo take his minutes for the most part.

Not sure if you meant Zeisloft or if you were really talking about an anti-depressant drug. :)

I've been affectionately calling Nick Zeisloft "Zoloft" for the calming influence he has on the team...

You go now Alabaster Thunder!

Somehow I can hear Fisch on the broadcast:  "Wow Tom PRETTY with another 3" and "How about that Nick ZOLOFT--he has come in with two three pointers and his floor play has really CALMED the Hoosiers down"! LOL!

Crean wants to win. He'll start and sub with whomever he thinks will help him do that.

I just hope the days of his schizophrenic substitution patterns are gone. I get that he’s the coach and that he can (and should) substitute as he sees fit. But, man, sometimes it just boggles the mind how he does it.
