So who is going to hire Fred Hoiberg?

My shortlist:

Maryland

Texas

St. John’s

USC

UCLA

He played the fast paced offense at Iowa State. Any of those schools could be looking for a change after this season.

Where is Mullen going?

Edit: I now see a bunch have beat me to this. Emphasis, I guess.

The Shaka experiment is failing. Maryland consistently underperforms. St. John’s just isn’t good. USC has massively underperformed. UCLA is getting itchy.

Out of all of them the only team that will most likely be looking for a coach is UCLA. But the others just don’t have hot seats.

He is the type of coach that would scare me at Illinois. Willing to recruit Chicago. Style of play. NBA coach locally.

Completely agree. Could awaken a sleeping giant. It is enough for me to hope Underwood does reasonable well this year. However, I don't think he is very well liked in Chicago atm.

To be fair. Some of us have called IU a sleeping giant for decades now.

But, it has been a long time since a coach has locked down the boarders like Arch has!

Back in the day ole Lou Henson got some Chicago talent the old fashioned way. Much like Bill Self acquired his collection of talent there and continues today at Kansas.

For what it's worth, Goodman goes on to say that he thinks Hoiberg's style is more suited for the Big Ten. If a coaching spot were to open up.

I don't see many BIG jobs opening up. Pitino at Minnesota i think would be the most likely opening. Nebraska and Iowa are having good years so far but that needs to continue. Underwood is only in year 2. Regardless, he will get another year. Their schedule has been brutal so far but the 2-6 record is disappointing and they do have some talent on that roster.

And Bill Self of course before he bolted.

Weber had his best years with Self's players. I don't think Illinois has even come close to the recruiting classes Self put together of Dee Brown, Deron Williams, Luther Head, Roger Powell, James Augustine. Those teams had some talented, tough players. Someone has be able to to recruit Chicago to be successful there.

Even if they have a terrible season, I have a hard time seeing Wittman firing Underwood. He just gave an extension to their FB coach and they have been terrible under him
