Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 I had a feeling this was going to happen with Wisconsin. Once other B1G coaches had some more game tape available to scout against Greg Gard, he lost his element of surprise he enjoyed a bit last year. As soon as Bo Ryan's guys start to cycle out of there, he's going to have an even rougher time. They should have had an outright title this year.I agrww you are right. Last year no one daw Bo just jumping ship mid year and their film was based off him coaching the team still. I will honestly wait another one or two before giving him any credit. Ryan handed him Hayes, Koenig, Happ and Brown as well as Trice. He should have won the league but yet they fell down. I can't remember a year I didnt discount teams shot at winning in Kohl until this year. Not saying he isnt good. I just want to see him with his own team or at least some of his own team. He still has Happ and I think Brown next year which is enough not to fall to far. Next year1. MSUThe rest is far from easy to predict. I think Iowa and Illinois as well as PSU have contending years. Northwestern and Minny probably stay in top 6 with potential to be as high as 2. Maryland has talent but could see a drop like us this yr even without Trimble as us w Yogi, Purdue loses Edwards, Haas and probably Swanny, Michigan could be a sneaky good team and then there is us who a lot can change for the good or bad. The B1G is open as ever again next year and MSU is the only team you can pencil in as a top 3 team. Nairn, Winston, Ward, Langford all are B1G level guys and the add another good class. OSU is very hard to read honestly cause they could have as much turnover as us. Rutgers will even make the bottom of the conference next year better. Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 As far as talent coming in I see a lot of underrated kids. Wisky has Nathan Reuvers and Brad Davison. Purdue's Nojel Eastern is gonna be a star!! Him and Carsen Edwards are gonna be NBA players. Illinois has Tillmon but I like Trent Frazier. MSU has Jackson but Xavier Tillman is gonna be a Nick Ward clone. Iowa has Luke Garza and Jack Nunge and Minnesota has the most underrated kid coming in besides Clifton Moore in Isiah Washington. I love Justin Smith for us personally too. OSU, Nebraska, PSU and Rutgers dont really have much coming in. Point is next year is a perfect time to see who is gonna take control of the B1G. Oh yeah Maryland has Darryl Morsey and Bruno Fernado to add with Huerter, Jackson and Cowan. They will be hard to read if Trimble leaves though he is their heart and soul. johnsoniu Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 Good game Iowa St at WVU. I know people like to dog the Big 12, but it's a solid conference. They have a group of 5 or 6 teams that produce a couple which are good enough every year to challenge KU. Which makes those 13 straight conf titles pretty impressive to me. I don't think Shaka envisioned the daily grind of a P5 league to be this difficult lol Quote
johnsoniu Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 Well it was a good game. Huggy turned up the pressure on em. Up 15 now. Quote

If you go back over the last 5-6 years there have probably been 15+ wth calls that have resulted in KU wins. The travel from Michaelu (sp?) where he had to clear TSA before laying it up was laughable. I guess it adds to the entertainment value so that's cool. IU a long time ago in a galaxy far far away beat the Big 12 and ACC champions. Crazy! Brass Cannon 1 Quote
KingPG21 Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 Another sign of how good a coach Bennett is. They lose four in a row for the first time since he first started there, they then beat the snot out of NCState at NC State. Beat UNC and are now beating the snot out of Pittsburgh. Hoosier Guy Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 Melon Trimble with a GW 3 pointer to beat Michigan State. Wow Spartans now 18-13. I think they have to win the first game of the BTT to feel completely safe Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Colin Hartman has become a real trendsetter. After he proposed to his girlfriend on Senior Day; Derek Willis did the same at pUKe and today Luke Fischer did likewise at Marquette. Quote
Uspshoosier Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Championship week is here. Youngstown st just beat the 1 seed Oakland. What a play. Hoops junkies I recommend having a tablet with espn3 watching these small conference games. The game pressure on the 1 seeds is crazy. What a play by Youngstown st to win it Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Quote
LIHoosier Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Speaking of pressure, Princeton just finished running the table in the Ivy League 14-0....the year they decide to finally have a conference tournament. Crimson and Cream 1 Quote

I think they have to win the first game of the BTT to feel completely safe In a nutshell, there were four possessions to win it: 1. With 2:25 left, MSU ran screen/roll/replace, with Bridges being open for the 3-pointer at the top of the key as the replace man. Good shot. Missed. 2. Next possession: Ellis missed an open 3-pointer from the left wing. 3. Next possession: MSU ran something that I'm pretty sure was new. If it wasn't new, it was something they have rarely run. It resulted in a sideline triangle on the right side. Winston fed Ward in the post, he missed a hook shot from about 5 feet, a little farther from the rim than is his comfort zone. Coaches were correcting Winston at the time out after that play, I think for not getting the ball to Ward on the initial window, which would have resulted in him getting it deeper, closer to the rim. 4. Out of a time out, MSU ran a SLOB with Bridges flashing to the right block, and Winston meeting him over there with an entry pass. The pass was deflected, knocked out of bounds and nearly a turnover. Then with the shot clock running down, MSU ran the screen/roll/replace (eye) play again, and executed it real well in a pinch, but Ward fumbled the pass out of bounds, all alone, under the rim. 5. And add the fifth possession, if you want to call it a possession, with MSU doing real well to get Bridges a fairly make-able 3-pointer at the top of the key. Tough one because a win would have been MSU's biggest, most satisfying, most meaningful win of the year, locking up a No. 3 seed and the NCAA Tournament. The loss may prove to be equally devastating. I don't remember one game carrying such polar opposite of potential outcomes in Izzo's career, more so than this one (aside from possibly the game vs Iowa in the 2007 Big Ten Tournament. A loss in that game and MSU might not have gotten into the big dance, considering MSU's eventual No. 9 seed. Izzo was angry about that No. 9 seed. Ended up beating Crean and Marquette, then losing at North Carolina in the second round). Quote

That's crazy and it could be very devastating for the Spartans. Big win for Maryland though. They had been struggling so a big win like that boosts their confidence Quote
