Would love to be a fly on the wall in those draft interviews when he's asked why he quit on his team. Talent wins in the NBA, but that's not a good look.

Another case of a badly bruised ego.

Nope. I know he and his family personally. My son was in his class at Sun Prairie high and were on the team for football/basketball. He has been at my house. I used to play pickup flag football games with the boys in the vacant lot behind our house. Great kid. Doesn’t matter how it looks. Give him 30 seconds in an interview and nobody will remember he opted out. He’s that likable. He got hurt. Doesn’t want to have it happen again. I can say this. Jalen needs to get to the league, and needs to be healthy. Many people depend on it.

Side note: There is a roughly 4’ fence that separates my property from the green space of the vacant lot where we would play football. To get there, we would have to crawl under that fence. I watched Jalen jump over that fence with my own eyes.

I also beat Jalen in a one on one tournament we had with Chris and his friends during an open gym at the middle school. The winning shot was a miracle baseline three while falling out of bounds. None of those boys could beat me until they were 16.

Other side note on playing basketball against youngsters:

When I got to high school, I'd play my dad in basketball and he started doing things that he never did before -- undercut me on rebounds, grab me on drives.  At the time I thought he was just being a dick.  Then I had my kid and realized why......pretty much have one gear when you get older and its not enough to keep up.  I had no first step anymore.....so I had to do the same things my dad was doing just to make it competitive against my son in sports that involved any kind of speed.

Haha! Definitely. One thing I remember clearly was when the kids got a little older and started to fill out a bit, there was a rule change I implemented (in the middle of play) that reduced the games from 21pts to 10pts. It was explained that (time) was the reason. Had nothing to do with stamina whatsoever.....this rule may or may not have been a key to success.

Get the insults in while you can:

Zach Edey is still horrendous.

I'm not watching the game and haven't seen Purdue play this year (missed their game against us).....I know that his stats are pretty good for the time he plays, but assume his lack of speed is an issue that can be exploited.  Am I on target?

Definitely. He’s late to everything, even in the halfcourt (which leads to his constant foul trouble) and terrible around the basket. (I don’t know his numbers, just based on what I’ve watched)

I do understand his place in their system and know he’ll be a pain in the butt in a year or two, so that’s why I’m getting my shots in while he’s a newborn deer.

Statistically, he looks like that they play very limited but pretty much go to when he's in, for good or bad.

He's playing 14 minutes per game....if he were playing starter's minutes (let's say twice that), he'd be averaging 16 points and 8 rebounds....but 4.4 fouls and 3 turnovers.  He'd be blocking 2.2 shots per game, which to be honest for a guy his size isn't much.

He is shooting 57% -- again, know that they are pretty much lay-ins he's getting or he isn't shooting.  Hits a really good free throw percentage for a guy his size (73%), but I'm going to assume he's going to be a guy that never plays 25+ minutes per game -- guys his size don't typically given the pounding their knees take.  Probably will also eventually be a match up issue, both for Purdue and their opponent -- I'm sure he can't play much against a team that pushes tempo but I know Purdue is pretty good at avoiding that.
