We play Kansas, UNC, and Loiusville this year. 3 of the top 10 programs nationwide. This year is a tremendous non con, even with the guaranteed powder puffs.

We did get UofL. But Indiana isn't going out and getting UNC and Kansas. Kansas is an event game in Hawaii and UNC is B1G-ACC Challenge. We need 2 or 3 more games on top of that. We want to see recruiting sky rocket and start pulling in the big dogs.. playing a an above average schedule won't do it.

Winning with schedules like we have this year will do it. Losing consistently with your unrealistic schedule won't accomplish much.

Until we have a team worthy of winning the majority of those games we better not bite off more than we can chew.

This all day long. The only game I see realistically coming back when Calipari quits UK in the next couple of years. I don't see us doing home and home with every top team in the country much to ex-Hoosier's chagrin. Only one team can claim a schedule like the one he proposed. It works for MSU. It works for them. At this point it doesn't work for the Dukes, Kentucky, or Kansas of the world. They a play a handful of top games then schedule cupcakes.

I never said anything about home and home. Go neutral. Plain Indy and Chicago against Kentucky. Play UNC in Charlotte or DC. Play Kansas in Dallas or something. The home and home thing just isn't what the elite are looking for.

MSU's schedule the past few years hasn't really been what it was in the past. There isn't a team in the country that plays that schedule that's in a P5 conference. No, playing a few elites in the OOC schedule doesn't hide the fact you play 14 of 18 games against trash conference opponents.

In dreamland you can schedule like that. In reality it just doesn't work. If we keep a schedule similar to what we have this year that will provide plenty of opportunities to play in big environments to show off for recruits.

Go look at the top OOC schedules. P5 teams with top OOC SOS do it one of two ways; schedule a boatload of middle of the pack teams or schedule a handful of elite games and a soft creamy exterior.

IU has had some soft OOC schedules in the years past but nothing like that of Marylands this upcoming season.

According to Kenpom we had a NCSOS ranked 265. Kansas was at 105. Kentucky was at 62. Duke was at 95. Michigan State was at 197. Virginia was a 42. They had a very good schedule last year. I see no reason Indiana can't get at least 5 big time games in the OOC. We could start a trend. College basketball severely lacks great games in the OOC. It'd be huge.

The problem with our schedule isn't scheduling top 50 opponents. It's that we schedule 200-300 RPI teams in the Non-Con slate. If we can trim those to 100-200 RPI and include a couple top 25 teams in the Non Con, our SOS would constantly be top 30. I agree with you Ex-Hoosier, we should schedule games against the likes of UNC, Duke, Arizona, Kentucky, etc, but we have to win those type of games when we get the chance before scheduling 5 of those games in a season. Because there's no point in having those teams on your schedule if you're just going to get thrashed by 20. And some teams when they're looking to schedule elite teams, aren't going to schedule us. Everything comes with winning.

Going by history, he'll leave pUKe in a pile of rubble. Fine with me, but it'll hurt our RPI greatly.

It's our quantity of 200+ RPI games that hurt us and having several in the 300+ range does is no favors. I went through the top P5 conference teams schedule with the highest SOS and with only a few exceptions their schedules aren't stacked. They play the system to have a lot of 100-150 games instead of 250+ games.

This has been our biggest issue. These "$100,000" home games that are no more than a pickup. We are typically in the top 30 SOS because of the B1G. So, not sure why we want to create a murderers row for nothing more than fan enjoyment? You still have to win to get into the tournament. It's great playing a top 5 SOS and going 21-9. Getting that 7 seed. Or going 24-6 with a top 30 SOS and getting a 4 seed...

Probably not too much longer. He is 57. He is no Coach K. He won't last to 65.

Top 30 schedule in what world? It has been a few years. The Big Ten has been very down the last 3 seasons and it has shown in our SOS. Last year Kenpom had us at 64. Year before at 65. Year before that at 58. 2013 we had a Top 30.. we were at 17. 2012 at 16. 2011 at 27. 2010 at 61. 2009 at 3. So only 4 times under Crean. This year is looking like another year outside the Top 50.

This, I'll have to dig through some files to find the research I did on OOC SOS. It basically shows that our record was comparable to the most difficult P5 teams minus the guarantee wins.

There is a way to game the system and we've done the exact opposite in recent years. Is there really that much of a different between an 300+ RPI and a 200ish RPI win in terms of likelihood of winning?

Our biggest issue in OOC SOS is playing too many 250+ RPI games. If you reduce those to below 250 it makes a world of difference.

In the last three years or so as we've gone from the B1G being the strongest conference to getting games against Rutgers and a turrrble Minny team our overall SOS has fallen. The OOC schedule should be flexible for the years our B1G schedule is weak. However, that is asking a lot of the coach and AD to make those up in the fly.

I've posted many times the "ideal" OOC schedule to both challenge the team and provide for a top OOC SOS. It looks similar to this coming seasons schedule with not as many super fluffy cupcakes. I'm glad to see us dictate some of the top opponents for this upcoming season.

SMH... I was going to be a Purdue Person, but I have as good a chance of getting through as your 9th grade teacher next year. Did you ever have a Statistics class in middle school? What did they say about small sample sizes? Go back to 2012 and before. Add that to your list. Get back with me. Sorry the B1G is traditionally stronger than your childhood memories of the last 3 years. Why don't you ask your idol Cal where he sits on this topic. I am sure he will be far more receptive.
