Reminds me of days long ago when Minny's non-conf. schedule was nothing but cupcakes and they'd start out like gangbusters and everybody would rave about how good they were and they'd be highly ranked.  Then reality would set in once conference play started.

Illinois had a few of those years as well before Brucie was fired.

Meyers Leonard's Sophomore year abs the year after. The 12-13 season the Big Ten was at its best. I think Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Illinois... idk if there was another... but all 5 had hit the Top 10 at one point.

The year we played SMU, Gtown, Louisville, Pitt, and Butler? 2014-15?

I wouldn't consider that great enough to bolster over anyone else. I know Louisville was a 4 seed that year and so was GTown. I think SMU and Butler were 6 seeds maybe? I don't think Pitt even made the tourney.

So you are comparing that to a historically terrible non conference schedule which started this discussion?

Can't look at after the fact. Uconn, Syracuse, Washington and Notre Dame are typically quality games.

Just like teams who played us in '08. They didn't plan to schedule a cupcake.

Yeah, but he can hit 80% of his three pointers. /s

Washington is never a good game simply because they have a god awful coach. Looking after the fact... the UConn game would help us.. we played them close even though we sucked and they ended up winning it all.

Anytime you can play a power 5 team non conference it is a good game to schedule. Not sure why you could possibly say otherwise.

Right... if you're in the SWAC. Although a good team in the SWAC may be hesitant to schedule Rutgers. Could bring SOS down.

We should have beaten Uconn. Again, can't look after the fact, our strength of schedule isn't determined after the tournament is over and Uconn was what, 7th or 8 in their conference?

That year? Nah they were Top 5 in their conference with UofL, Cincy, Memphis and SMU.

Even without scheduling a top 100 non conference game our SOS would be top 50. With the 4 or 5 we get annually we have a top 30 SOS annually. Even when teams we scheduled aren't what they are historically we still easily have top 50 SOS. I would like us to maintain 20-30 based on how Crean practices if we are being real. Although this isn't a video game where we can play top 10 every game. As much fun as NCAA Basketball used to be with that happening for PS3...

We should be scheduling Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas and Duke every year. And yes that can be done if we're willing. Get rid of the Cross Roads Classic and make room for the Elite to be on the schedule. I bet all of those schools would be willing to schedule each other and play around the country.
