Well I love it when Indiana basketball is the talk of the country, but not for the reasons these programs are talking about us. So I've seen all the threads about how it's Creans fault and the players need to be held accountable, I get all that.
But my question to you Hoosier nation is this, What needs to be done to quit all this BS? What steps need to be taken to get our program back up to even a respectable level? And don't just say "fire Crean" I want to know what needs to be done, cause frankly I'm fed up.
My solution is suspend Stan and Troy for 6 games, and the next time someone gets arrested or fails a drug test, they are completely off the team. BOOM send a damn message

IMO you have to send a message.  Take a strong approach without being afraid of being the bad guy.  These actions are unacceptable, and when they screw up they will be held accountable because actions have consequences.

This isn't Stan's first or second time, it's his third.  Kick him off the team.  Troy should get more than what is essentially a two game suspension, instead of 4 games counting the exhibitions more like 4 PLUS the exhibitions although I like 6 plus the exhibitions more.

And penalize everyone the same when they screw up.  3 times?  You're gone, a 3 strikes you're out policy.

How many passes does Stanford get? According to some reports, he’s failed drug tests at least twice and been arrested on an alcohol charge, to boot. IMO, he should be gone. Period. That is the message that Crean needs to send.

And Crean should be put on a zero tolerance leash. Make the kids understand that if they get in any more trouble, that they are gone, and that Crean is gone, too.

Robinson should definitely be gone. Williams should have be gone at least until the conference begins. Kids push limits...you have no limits they don't know when to stop. In my opinion Perea should have been gone last year. I would probably support Holt being gone this year. Yogi? Shouldn't gotten a suspension. I know Davis is down right now but...

You can't just throw kids off after a first offense. I agree the suspensions should've been harder but imagine if Hanner would've thrown off the team. The kid got a ridiculous suspension the first year and then had this incident last year. It would've been a lot on this kid. I think everyone deserves a second chance. Holt, Perea and Ferrell all deserve second chances, Ferrell and Perea have gotten it.
Williams and Robsinson are different cases because they have now failed MULTIPLE drug tests.

We also have to remember that Holt was not in the wrong with the Devin Davis incident. That was Devin Davis's fault all the way.

What should be done...  I'm more about solutions than rehashing the problems.  The problem is it is extremely hard to start as a "player's coach" to a disciplinarian than it is to go from a disciplinarian to a more lenient coach.  The players know what they can get away with and have more than pushed the limit.  It is time for the coaching staff to push back and take the team back over.  This team was never broken down properly to be built back up on a proper foundation.  This team was attempted to be built on rubble.

Tearing the team down -

The next practice would be hell.  No drills, no shooting, no installing defensive principles, etc.  Blare some Hank Williams Jr. "Family Tradition" while the players run until they puke.  Have students throw foam bricks at them until they realize the only time they'll be stoned the rest of the year will be when they mess up.

Instilling a sense of responsibility -

Every player will be assigned a "battle buddy" on the team.  Yogi, since you are the "leader" of this team, you get Stan.  Nick take Williams.  On down the line.  If you're late to practice, a study session, fail a test, go to the bars, etc. your battle buddy and you face Yogi and Nick, the team "leaders."  They assign the punishment with the assistance of the coaching staff.  A fair punishment results in only the "team of battle buddies" that screwed up paying the price.  An unfair punishment results in Nick and Yogi or whoever wants to stepup as the leaders of this team joining them.

Learn to respect the program -

Every player is given an away uniform and a set of warmups.  The players lost the right for a home uniform.  That player is responsible to have both sets ready for inspection at any time.  The "leaders" of this team, under the guidance of the coaching staff, will call for inspections.  The uniforms must be clean and presentable to a respectable level of what this programs stands for.  Uniforms dirty, not read?  See team leaders for punishment.  If by the time the B1G season rolls around and you've passed your inspections you earn the right for a home uniform.

Zero tolerance policy begins -

Every last players on the freaking roster signs an agreement that they will abide by every team rule with no exceptions.  One more failed drug test by anyone on the team and they're bags are packed, mommy and daddy get called and they come to pick you up.  No questions asked.  A run in with the law?  Gone.  It has reached that level.

I'm one that believes in not everything needs to be made public.  I don't need to know what punishments are behind the scenes.  I'm good with that but this is nonsense.  You have teammate in the freaking hospital because you can't control your partying.  If you love and respect your coach and program half as much as the man who represents you, you will do everything in your power to show respect.

Wow, RMK reborn. Too harsh. Just because the kids are ball players, they get no slack? I agree with running till they puke though. And I think team leaders should take responsibility for younger players. But I also believe they were too stupid and got caught. Every team has these problems. They just handle it better. They are kids after all. It's not like we all were saints when we were young. I think they all have learned from this. JMO

So Yogi would be assigned to basically police Stan? Why do I think that might not work ?

I don't see why it wouldn't. Stan can come off as arrogant, but overall, from what I've seen so far, the younger guys have respect for the veterans. Yogi is definitely seen as a leader of this team and as long as he is upfront with him and lays down what is expected of him in order to return to full potential and be a key player in the lineup, I think Stan will follow. Hearing what is being said about the program and being under the gun of the recent events, he doesn't have much of a choice except to abide by the policing by Yogi. I think Yogi taking Stan is most beneficial

Yogi policing? He admitted he hasn't done that whatsoever

That part of the problem. As an upper classman, Yogi IS a leader, whether he embraces that role or not. Same with Hanner. They are among the longest tenured players on the team. The new kids are watching them. They learn from them - both good and bad things. If Yogi gets away with something, they’re going to try it too.
