Devin Davis injured/Emmitt Holt cited for DUI

5]Update from Zach Osterman http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/indiana/2014/11/01/indianas-devin-davis-injured-in-car-accident/18313535/

5]According to Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Jeff Canada, Holt dropped Davis off in the parking lot of Memorial Stadium at approximately 12:45 a.m. Saturday.

5]After Davis exited the vehicle, Holt turned back onto 17th Street, heading west. For an "unknown reason," Davis unexpectedly reentered the roadway and was struck by Holt's car, according to Canada.

5]Police responding to the accident found Davis unconscious north of 17th Street with an injury to his head, according to Canada. He was treated by ambulance personnel and transported to Bloomington Hospital. Canada could not say whether Davis had regained consciousness before being transported from the scene.

that quote, "reentered the road for an unknown reason," to me it sounds like one of two things

1) Davis left something in Holts car and ran into the street trying to stop him and get it back. Most likely his wallet, phone, keys, etc.

2) As a joke, Holt let Davis out of the car for some reason and drove away with the intention of coming back. however, again, Davis ran into the street to stop him. (This scenario came to my mind b/c ive done this/had this done to me numerous times)

Just throwing out possible explanations for why Davis was in the street.

Also, why was he dropped off in the stadium parking lot? and not at his dorm? this kinda goes with my second suggestion.

I just find that there's always an excuse from many IU fans about all of this stuff where some people think the players should never be held accountable for what they did. For Hanner, it was "Well, at least he didn't hurt anyone when he was driving drunk." For Yogi and Stanford, it was "Well, at least they weren't driving" and "Well, at least Yogi was ALMOST of legal age to drink." and "Well, at least we know that it was Little 500 weekend and they weren't alone." and "Well, at least no one got hurt." Now, it seems to be, "Well, at least it was only a .025 -- that's barely a couple of drinks!" and "Well, at least it was still early in the night and they weren't out until 3:00 a.m." and "Well, at least it wasn't the night before a real game." I'm starting to think that one of these players could go off and stab five people and we'd hear some of you say, "Well, at least he didn't use an illegal handgun."

I'm also tired of the "glass houses" comments. Guess what? My house isn't glass. I didn't drink underage in college. I'm sorry if that means you don't think I was very "cool," but I had plenty to lose and nothing to gain by doing so, so I didn't do it. Why do we seem to have player after player after player after player after player who can't exercise a little self-control by figuring out the same? They don't have to drink to "impress" other people -- they're freakin' IU basketball players!!! They could get any girl on campus and hang out with any guys they want to hang out with! They have absolutely nothing to gain by drinking alcohol, but they can damage the reputation of a coach and of a program they supposedly respect if something goes wrong. That's putting "self" above "team" and those of you who condone the behavior of underage drinking itself with things like "Everyone does it" and "If you can fight for your country at the age of 18...etc." still can't possibly condone the selfish attitude that these players are displaying by choosing to engage in that behavior, can you?!?!?

Yes. I can.

IMO there is something wrong with the program here.  Yes young college kids will go out, drink and make mistakes.  However, these are elite division 1 basketball players -- not typical college kids.  During the season, a higher standard needs to be expected.  Don't drink or do drugs.  Eat right.  Take care of your body.  Nothing good happens to these guys when they are out after 11:00 pm.

Now outside of the season, I am a lot more tolerant.  Have a normal college experience.

How can you condone underage drinking in any manner is sickening. I don't get the whole "normal college experience". College is for learning, not partying. Being in college doesn't give you the right to break the law.

Anyone who honestly believe college isn't both for learning and the social experience is either choosing to be ignorant or blind to the truth. Good god this is all such bullshit. Pray for Davis and pray for Holt. Stop trying to tear everyone associated with the program down when they are already at their lowest point.

Wait wait wait. Bullshit isn't censored but dick is? Bullshit.

He has no influence off the court or on it. On it he can't coach himself out of a wet paper bag. Off it he can't keep his players from making dumb decision after dumb decision. Can't blame the players. They have no senior leadership thanks to Crean plus they have watched Hanner, Yogi, and Stan get in very little trouble for alchohol offenses. Plus the alledged toking done last year with little consequences. Nine newcomers to the program this year and normally 5/6 every year kills the continuity in leadership and wins. And Crean does this by his own hand. We have become the laughingstock of the B1G in almost every way now thanks to him yet many still want to give him a pass. His own words say he's worried about Holt where he should be kicked off the team. Our terrible post prescence just became worse. It will be interesting to hear Glass' comments considering what happened at Michigan. Wonder if he will tell us to go root for another team like some of our apologists here? Best wishes Devin for a speedy recovery.

You have no idea if Crean has "lost the program". Neither do I. Maybe it's the complete opposite? Maybe Devin and Emmitt would have loved to go out and party on Halloween all night but listened to Crean and decided to just go out for a little bit and head home early. Maybe they went to a friends for a couple hours and were heading home early and this was a freak accident?

It's entirely plausible that they were calling it a night early and Devin was chasing the car because he left his cell phone in it.

Watching this product called Indiana basketball is bullshit. You act like its our fault the program has now sunken to these alcohol and drug related lows and we're tearing the program down. Why don't you blame the man in charge since he heads the program? I know its too easy to pass the blame; Tom Crean right on cue.

I sure do believe Crean's lost the program. I don't care under what circumstances the accident occurred. It did; it was alchohol related and its the third one of this year. Who polices this? The head coach does, and its his job to make sure it stops. The players must have missed the dui and under age charges from last year since we're right back at it. The buck starts and stops with Crean like it or not. He fails miserably on and off the court. His terrible coaching always stuck out now he can't even handle the players on or off the court. Momentum is here to send him packing and I say bye bye.

What the hell does coaching on the court have to do with any of this. Second time you've brought it up, so clearly isn't just a throwaway comment. Nice to see your agenda in full force.
