Should we really care about players being "Creaned"?

Recommended Posts

1.  Yes
2.  You really don't think the signed recruits don't know what's been going on at Indiana over Crean's tenure?  REALLY?  They know.  They ask questions about it.  Their parents ask Crean about it.  You really don't think so?  You really think that all this is a shock to them?  You must think they're all ignorant.
3.  Why do you root for a program that you denigrate constantly?
4.  Results on the court are all that matter.  They have nothing to do with this discussion.

I disagree as Creaning relates to not winning a lot more than you think. It goes hand and hand actually and loss of veteran players cost us a lot the last 2 years. I love IU and the basketball program, but as you can tell I'm not a fan of the current head coach.

We can agree on this to a point.

"Creaning" being a surprise to a poor victimized player?  Nope.  They know what they're getting into.

A disgrace of a program?  No way.

Anyway, I'm out for the night.  Thanks for the discussion.

We only lost valuable veteran players after the 2013 season and that hurt us last year, and those players left due to graduation or to go play in the NBA. We lost zero important veteran players at the end of last year.

I don't think anyone is denigrating the program . It's criticism of our coaches recruiting tactics and we have the right to express that opinion.

No matter how we try to rationalize it it still seem like a bad practice. If the two kids were told that they would be on a one year trial I'm pretty sure they would have said no thanks. All the articles written after their signings suggested otherwise.Go back and read them Potential, great trailing shooter, soft hands etc, etc. How do you fulfill potential sitting on the bench and then transferring Give me a break.

Depends if a junior Jurkin is more valuable than a freshman Jurkin. Or a redshirt junior Etherington is more valuable to a freshmen Hoeztal? You could also say a senior Abell cause that hurts both last and this year. Is he more valuable than a transfer Z? I say yes again. Where is our veteran leadership outside Yogi and Troy? That's one of our glaring problems.

I really liked Abell as a player and he would have helped last year.

I think he's claiming that priller and April may play minor roles and thus coach Crean should be more judicious with how he passes schollies.

Perhaps, but he clearly stated about using the oversign for these roll players. Which hasn't happened.

Would they do better at fulfilling potential spending all four years on the bench because we have a 10 man rotation and they are 11-13?

Maybe the staff shouldn't approve any transfers. "Hey guy, there's only about 5 mins of PT a year for you, but you're staying right here until you graduate because our fans really dig senior night. Deuces B! Whooo integrity!"

How about this year as a nasty Senior go to defender not including his slashing and improved shot? 4 years in the system has benefits to the program some just can't understand.

I really liked Abell as well but let's see how he plays this year. His sophomore wasn't all that promising. I think he's the only transfer that I'd agree was painful, besides the odd Fischer situation.

5 minutes of playing time a year? Have you not watched Creans sub patterns? He makes sure his walkons get that much per game; unless your a big man in a boot.

Don't you want him to play fewer guys?

Or no because then you wouldn't be able to complain about that?

Or is it just that my being hyperbolic wasn't precise enough for you?

That's not what I'm saying. If we wouldn't rush to sign marginal players  would we even be having this discussion? Leave a couple open  scholarships  so you can have late signings.Nate Ritche looks pretty good and will probably play as much as they will. No scholarship,No forced transfer. How deep do you think we play this year,13?If we do I bet we aren't having this discussion much longer. If you want to  be totally nonobjective while worshiping this staff that's your thing .Its not mine .Sorry.

Not promising on a consensus #1 team most of the year that should have won a national championship or at least a final four with 2 of the top 4 picks in the draft and 6 1000 point career scorers(Watford, Hull, Oladipo, Zeller, Sheheey, and soon Yogi). Wow, your sophmore expectations weren't much.

I hate "creaning." Now, if it's the players fault then I'm perfectly fine with it. To me, a 17/18 year old kid is making a HUGE life choice to play for IU, he should in no way be forced off if he isn't good enough. It's not his fault he was offered a scholarship and might get passed up.

How would you feel as a parent or player? If these players are giving it their all and making the grades, they should be able to stay here.

That's my quick opinion. I completely understand the other side of this argument, but I respectfully disagree with it.

Go Hoosiers!!!

I was stating the obvious. Another obvious is it doesn't really matter what I want Crean to do or you either. My mention of his sub patterns is not some obscure realization that the rest of Hoosiernation hasn't already figured out. Remember how his sub patterns were received last year by 17,500 faithful?
