Should we really care about players being "Creaned"?

Recommended Posts

If the players know what they agreed to, why should outsiders complain when the plan works itself out?

If this is the plan working itself, then I would say we have bigger problems.

What is "the plan," and how is it working itself out?

The oversign plan.  Crean knows what he's doing with the offers, and the players and assistants are on the same page.  I don't understand the posters who perceive players to be victims of creaning when they know exactly what they're getting into.  They try to claim that the current system is "horrible" or "embarrassing" or "a shame"....or whatever.  There's a plan where everybody knows what they're getting into, and they willfully chose to agree to it.

In that way, it's working itself out well.

Results on the court?  Completely different discussion.

Oversigning?  It's the standard and the players aren't victims of it.

I've said it before here, it's like this for me.

If you're comin' out of high school and your best offers are four years at Incarnate Word or a year at Indiana and transfer out then what choice would you make? Any smart high schooler would and should make the latter because he'll have bigger names looking at him after a year at Indiana than he did in high school.

If a player comes in and then transfers out into a better position than he was in before Indiana offered, who is upset about that?

This would be a non-issue if Crean managed a roster like any other Big Ten coach.

Bingo. That's why he's at the top of the list in transfers per year. Running off juniors and signing similar freshmen just doesn't make sense. What you get in return is a continuous non mature roster with a lot of players that do not get to develop and the cycle repeats itself.

Yes, so was Jurkin, Etherington, Abell, and Hollowell after two years. Crean informed them when they signed that he was considering their scholarships like Indiana Junior College. If your not meeting the mustard after two years, get your associate degree and move on. Heck of a recruiting pitch and working exactly toward the master plan of qualifying for the NIT this in year seven when we stayed home last year. Maybe in a year or two we can really build back up to make the real tournament. Lofty goals at IU these days.

There's a couple of statements that you make I think are laughable at best.
1. Crean knows what he's doing?
2. Recruits on same page? Do you think they would have signed knowing they were going to be run off?
3. The current system is horrible, embarrassing, and a shame. Would your words for his system be great, prideful and honorable?
4. Results on court don't count? Other than college graduates which you don't have with a lot of transfers, what is the barometer for success at Indiana? Ninth in the B1G? Maybe at Purdue that's acceptable but never here.

Any source of that? Or did Crean not actually tell them that that you know?

Edit: And who of the players that left do you think would have made the difference last season?

Guess so. Part of the master plan.

It was an example because I know his high school recruiting situation off-hand and it's a clear time when he would be better off for the year here. I have no information or reason to believe that Priller is only here for a year.

1.  Yes

2.  You really don't think the signed recruits don't know what's been going on at Indiana over Crean's tenure?  REALLY?  They know.  They ask questions about it.  Their parents ask Crean about it.  You really don't think so?  You really think that all this is a shock to them?  You must think they're all ignorant.

3.  Why do you root for a program that you denigrate constantly?

4.  Results on the court are all that matter.  They have nothing to do with this discussion.

Our very own poster Josh just a couple posts ahead of this. He said everyone knew Creans plan of Creaning them after their freshmen or sophmore year or whatever they agreed upon when they signed. Its part of his master plan which he achieved this year in cancelling senior night. Such great planning as something so well thought out has probably never happened here before. Isn't that something to be proudful as a college basketball coach? No seniors on senior night? We'll still have the band and cheerleaders and Crean can make up his own memorable speech that goes "When my time has gone and past just because I have no Seniors my critics can kiss my a__"

I never said those words, you're hearing what you want to hear.

These players know that if they don't produce, they're on the chopping block.  They believe they can produce.  It's like every business in America.

When they don't, they're not surprised.  It's not as though Crean says "you're only here for a year".

Are you familiar with business practices at all?  Are you familiar with the term People Bank?
