Where were you? #NeverForget

Recommended Posts

It's a day of remembrance and celebration. As we remember the fallen and celebrate the true heroes of our society. Thank you to our First Responders in the community. The Firemen, Policemen, EMTs, etc.

Where were you on this solemn day 13 years ago?

I was at work, in shock, huddled around a TV with about 25 other people...I remember people flocking to the gas stations and even some gas station owners had the gall to gouge prices in a time of panic...

I remember sitting outside that evening and it was so quiet...nobody on the roads, no planes in the sky...just a surreal day altogether that rocked the nation from coast to coast...

I too, am grateful for the hero's of 9/11 and I remember that day like it was yesterday...

thank you Naturalhoosier, for putting up this thread.

I remember I was driving into work and the radio show said a plane had just crashed into the WTC. That was literally all they said initially as the story was breaking. I thought to myself what kind of moron can't get his Cessna out of the way of a big-ass building.

Not until I arrived at work (short commute) did I realize the scope and depth of the issue at hand. We spent the day in the break room (like so many others) huddled around the TV. Dumbfounded as to who and why would want to do this.

I too remember how quiet that evening was. Almost an air of peacefulness (as weird as that sounds) hanging about. I loved the camaraderie that ensued. It felt as if personal problems were set aside and we focused as a nation on one thing. Supporting and defending this country.

Walked into 3rd grade class that morning when another teacher came running down the hall telling everyone to turn on their TVs. So crazy how I can remember everything so clearly that day. We didn't really have class that day everyone just wanted to go home and when I got home all i did was watch the news with my family.

Walking into class at IUS just as the first plane hit, saw the breaking news on a TV in the commons, stopped to watch and before long the whole commons was full, all classes cxld... Very surreal, people broke down crying, mass confusion as to what and why???

Just finished saying the pledge of allegiance with my preschoolers when my co-teacher handed me a note saying a second plane hit the towers. We prayed inside our heads as we conducted the rest of the school day while speaking to many of our parents as they called and/or came to the school.

I was walking to class through the arboretum area in Bloomington. The prof in the first class wouldn't let students leave. Half of our small Communications class was from the NY area. Kids were breaking down some crying, some yelling at prof. We didn't know any facts at the time. It was a crazy, horrible day.

I was walking my students into the building. We were in total lockdown mode. We only were allowed to take the students to the restroom and lunch. No one was allowed to leave the room alone.

2nd grade. Teachers bawling in the hallways. I remember getting picked up from school at the end of the day wondering what happened. What hijacking meant. What the World Trade Center was. It's scary how vivid my memory of that day is, even though I had no clue what was going on.

This is me exactly. I remember everything from that day, but at the time I had no idea what anything meant.

I was a non-traditional student at IUB. I had class later in the day so I woke up late. Tried to scan my fantasy FB results, but my internet connection was awful. That is when I noticed a Yahoo headline annoucing the first tower was hit. I watched the evemts unfold on TV until class. I can't tell you what we specifically studied that day, but I definitely remember those two classes.

I hope that we never experience another day like that in our lifetimes. The world changed that day.

I was in between classes my freshman year of high school. One if my friends ran up to me and told me. I laughed a and said yeah right, and brushed it off.

I went to the school library for P.E. Because I had a sporting event that night, and they brought in TVs to broadcast it. I couldn't believe it and was really upset. Couldn't believe this had happened to The US.

I was a sophomore at IU that year and lived in a house off campus. I woke up to one of my roommates yelling for everyone to get up and come downstairs. The 5 of us basically sat in silence the entire day while watching the news. I got an email from one of my prof's that we still had class that afternoon, but didn't go. The only thing we left the house for during the day was to head to the Red Cross to donate blood. We felt like we needed to be doing something, but when we got there the line was so long that we had to go back the next day.
