Just talking hypotheticals...THAT would be interesting. I think he got his start at UK. Not sure who he was under though. Tubby maybe?

Edit/Disclaimer: Just saying that's interesting. Not like I want it to happen yesterday. I'm giving Crean another year or two like everyone else.

Nothing wrong with having higher expectations!

OK! Then let's hire Stevie based solely on the fact that he played here! If he wasn't Steve Alford, we'd look at his record the same way many of you look at Crean's. And the guy tried to set up a meeting with a rape victim...so hell no.

His first official stint was under Pitino as head video coordinator for Boston for 5 years before being promoted to an assistant. That would of been around 1999-2004... I believe.

I do think he would have great success as a college coach. Dude is such a good players coach

He was a student manager under Pitino at UK in 94-95

Yeah I'm wondering if his mentality would work with college players though. Seems like he leaves all the yelling and overall discipline to Larry and DWest. He'd have to put on big boy pants with that in college.

Plenty...... and again the arrogance of some of you about our fan bases' knowledge of the game is kind of obnoxious. Just because there are more of us and we like to talk about how knowledgeable about the game that doesn't make it so

Then name them. Everyone else with the exception of UK is talking football including Duke. And even UK is excited about their football prospects. To deny Indiana fans have basketball knowledge are the same ones denying Crean getting collectively booed last year with his sub patterns. You were probably one in the minority including many here who thought our fans were booing the players. IU fans never have or will boo their players but they sure know the game of basketball.

Haha, no it isn't. Read the boards. Listen to the nonsense at games. We are great at arrogance though! And who cares if we're talking basketball this time of year? All that says is we're too stupid to realize how important football is. Of course there is also this amazing thing called not having a one track mind, and being able to enjoy multiple sports. One doesn't need to have the same "expectations" argument every day ad nauseum.

No, we are great at basketball championships. You may call that arrogance with a football picture in your profile. I get it. Football is 2nd fiddle at IU and will always be. It doesn't mean we don't support football, soccer, baseball or any other sport. Believe me , expectations are certainly different on the gridiron here. How else could you explain keeping Corso so long all the while getting rid of the best coach in history Bill Mallory? Just my opinion as I witnessed wins against Michigan and Ohio State sharing our last B1G championship. Blame us for the one track mind.

So an offense that is a bunch of isolation plays, hoping that Yogi, or whoever is our best playmaker at the time, does something good? Yay?

Which is different than what, exactly?  The option of either 4 statues or a 3 man weave at the top of the key?

I'm kidding here.  Okay, well, partially at least.

While I'm in the crowd that says the fans were booing Crean and not the players, I also don't expect the players to know it wasn't directed at them.

We are splitting hairs here ----if you are booing the coach for taking out a certain player and putting in a certain other player---you are indirectly booing the player being put in! The message being sent to the player being put in is that "you suck" and "no coach in his right mind would put you in the game at this time".  That's great for team morale and player development!

I admit I groaned at some of the sub patterns too---but don't boo while the players are playing.  If you feel you must express your disgust with Coach then boo him when they introduce him at the start of the game or send an email or text to him or bring it to a message board.

So UK fans don't count because they go against your point, that seems fair.... Duke too apparently.

"To deny Indiana fans have basketball knowledge"

Where the hell did I say IU fans don't have knowledge of the game? Learn to read before replying first off. I said the arrogance and acting like we are superior to other fan bases when it comes to knowledge of the game. Never once said that the fan base lacked knowledge of the game.

What? So, you managed to create another false argument that I never said. Are you here to actually talk intelligently, or just get pissy with everyone who disagrees with your opinion. I've been extremely hard on Crean for the past season. But hey, you probably know my stances better than anyone else.....

I honestly was thinking of that when I posted. Our offense wasn't really creative this past year, which was a big complaint of mine. But the people suggesting Woodson and Vogel probably wouldn't be a lot more inspired by their offenses if they watched the Pacers and Knicks these past two seasons

I listen to all this back and forth and my thought is that IF we have another subpar year and we have to make a change ---we need a knock-out hire even if we really have to pay for it. Crean is doing so many things right that we don't want to take a chance on an unproven coach (even if they once played for IU).  Believe me--- we could do a lot worse than Coach Crean and a superstar coach could help us not have to go through player turnover and provide instant name recognition to hit the ground running on recruiting. Not sure who that coach would be at this point.  I hope Crean wins this year and makes all these countless threads moot so we can all move on to hanging banner #6  !

Your wrong again on this one. Indiana's fanbase is probably the most knowlegeable of any in the country. By growing up with the game, you learn it. How many other fanbases are talking basketball this time of year?

Any that are good. Do you honestly believe this? How can you even prove it? Go check out some other forums, and I promise you that places like KU, Duke, UL, and UCLA all claim this exact same thing and have been talking about basketball all year. There is a certain superiority complex within the fanbase that is unfounded. I agree that we are one of the best fanbases in the country, but we aren't alone in our love for college basketball.

Great post. The fact that there are people on here that don't understand this is embarrassing. The players and recruits heard the booing just as loud as Crean. Anyone who booed, booed everyone on the court whether they meant to or not.

Hey, #1 Crean Apologist here. I'd like to just say that Crean is perfect in every way and there is no better coach in the country.

Remember when we ran a flex against Michigan?  How there was ball and off ball movement and our offense actually looked fluid and, well, competent?  Yeah, that was fun for the one game it lasted.

It's not that he couldn't win with the team he had last year, the talent was there it just wasn't ideal for his system.  It's that he either isn't good at adapting his system or he absolutely refuses, and neither is a good thing.
