When Will Bob Knight/IU Patch Things Up

Recommended Posts

I don't think he will ever come back. Crean and the rest of the current adm have tried the best they can and I give them all props for it. Its time to move on. We appreciate everything Knight has done for the university as far as championships and the library, but one man does not define Indiana basketball. Our history shows that and our future will prove it.

I would like to see the reunion--but I agree at some point we have to Motel 6 him----We'll leave the light on--- and the number to our room---but he's going to have to be the one that comes knockin' on the door!

Haha. Killin me.

If and when IU hires a Knight disciple or at least a guy who fits the mold as head coach, I think he will return to IU.  Otherwise I don’t see it happening.  While not meaning to be critical of Crean’s personality, I somehow imagine in Knight’s mind that the idea of a salesman like Crean taking even a small amount of credit for his return is a show stopper.

I'm not sure that has anything to do with it. Crean and Knight actually have met several times because of their mutual friendship with Tony LaRussa. There were rumors that a closed door meeting occurred after Crean took the job. At the very least, it is known (via Hammel I believe) that Knight admires the way Crean runs his program.

Yep--I had the pleasure of meeting Hammel last year and I got right to the point and asked him about Knight's return, He and Knight are still good friends and speak frequently and Hammel is still a huge IU fan and goes to all the games. He indicated he did not know any more than we do about it but that he still holds out hope it will occur too and encourages Knight to do so. My impression was the problem is not Crean--it's still the way he feels about the way his dismissal from IU was handled.

When you least expect it.

If you don't mind me asking, what happened? I as at, well my family and u were at a practice last year and Bobby Knight's son was there sitting in the stands talking with Coach Crean for a little bit. I thought they all got long quite well. I had no idea there was beef going on. Can something explain what and why in about 2-4 sentences? I have to read my night scriptures and send Troy his scriptures and get ready to go to sleep. If it's not to be known publicly, I understand and thanks anyway.

Well mom...

Bob Knight was fired in 2000 for violating a zero tolerance policy enacted by then IU president Myles Brand...the zero tolerance policy came about from a controversial practice film that reveals Knight putting his hand in the throat region of Neil Reed...

some say he choked, some say he moved Neil...

either way...some time later he came into contact with a non-athletic student and said student filed a complaint against coach Knight...and coach was fired...

this left coach with the utmost hatred for IU, and will take an act of the University of Jesus Christ and his 12 disciples to get him back on campus...at least from my perspective.

Just to piggy-back on the previous reply, it has nothing to do with Tom Crean at all. It's all about how Knight was fired in 2000.

It's actually encouraging to hear that Pat Knight was at a practice! Thanks for sharing that.
