Perea not with Team due to VISA issues

Recommended Posts

Hothoosiermom ? DocLibby?  Basketball4IU?
I need some positive news about his game!   the only question mark left so far, and a big one at that

I've had the opinion that Hanner's physical skills and his basketball IQ have not matched up. I was hoping that progress had been made but I'll have to wait to see it. I would like nothing more than for Hanner to be able to the big that this team needs.

17 games and counting. Let's see if this qoute below carries any weight throughout the season. Put your boots on the ground IU!

“It’s time to play. It’s time to be really serious about playing extended minutes,” Crean said. “It’s time to be an enforcer at the basket. It’s time to show that toughness that his body gives you. It’s going to have to happen or he won’t be out there as much. We need his consistency. It’s no more fun and games, now it’s time for you to lock in and mature and not anymore talk, let’s get at it.”

Hopefully Hanner spent the last 6 days living at Cook Hall, working on his game. Honestly I have a good feeling he will give us what we need from him this year, and that's no small feat.

ZachOsterman @ZachOsterman

Team spokesman just confirmed Hanner Mosquera-Perea's status is unchanged. He won't make IU's last game in Canada.

Does the staff really think anyone buys what they're selling? I'm not really directing this at you Olivia, but an IU team spokesman honestly thought these visa issues would have been worked out in the short time IU was in Canada. They never even said what the true hold up was. Just more of the same from this staff.

I think most everyone, except for possibly you and DunnWoods, "buys what the staff is selling" (just that choice of words shows your bias). Your cynicism ignores the overwhelming number of posts in this thread that describe just how difficult it is to get into Canada with a recent DUI.

I think that the staff tried to get Hanner into Canada right up until a few days ago, and couldn't make it happen because of his DUI. Hey, that's kinda what the staff said!

Any other "theory" is tin foil hat material, unless there is some empirical evidence suggesting otherwise.

I also believe there is more to this story. Count me in that group. I don't have all the facts but I have some that allows me to speculate. I am not privy to discuss anything but the possibility exists there is more to the story.

However, overall, I don't think it's too big of a deal either way. As long as Hanner wakes up and realizes his opportunity. I think he'll be surprisingly good this year!

PM me Wayne; I am curious what you've heard that makes you think there's more to it than just the DUI holding up the visa.

Key bulletpoints from the website:

the biggest surprise for most Americans is that they may be turned away at the Canadian border if they have any type of alcohol related offense.

  • It does not matter if you are arriving as a passenger in another person’s car.
  • It does not matter if you have no intention of driving in Canada at all.   For example, 4 to 5 passengers a week who take the ferry to Victoria Canada for a one-day walking sightseeing trip are turned back for DUI / DWI offenses even though they do not have a car with them.
  • It does not matter if your offense was classified as a misdemeanor or a felony.
  • There are no exceptions for fans, guests, officials, or anyone else entering Canada for special events.   Former U.S. President G.W. Bush had to get a special waiver to enter Canada because of his 1976 drunken-driving offense in Maine.

But CREAN!!!!!

Seriously though, sounds like Canada has their stuff figured out.
