Eron Gordon ruled ineligible @ Cathedral

Recommended Posts

Thanks for sharing. I posted this in his recruiting thread and it can go here to.

IHSAA commissioner Bobby Cox said in a message to the Star on Friday that Gordon, a 6-2 junior-to-be, was deemed ineligible due to a transfer "primarily for athletic reasons" as stated under Rule 19-4 of the IHSAA by-laws.

Cox said Gordon's parents have submitted a written appeal to the IHSAA's decision. A hearing date has not yet been set. If the decision holds, he would be ineligible for 365 days from the start of his enrollment at Cathedral.

That's so dumb. I'm sorry but you should be able to send your kid to whatever school you want.

His parents have every right to send him to Cathedral. It just has to be for a non-athletic reason, and they don't seem to have one.

And before someone comments that athletes should be allowed to play wherever they want, that's not how high school athletics work.

Isn't Cathedral a private school? Their academics are probably better than IPS so wouldn't this be an easy out? How about all the talent at Park Tudor? Please tell me all their athletes just came for academics also. IHSAA and NCAA are starting to parallel in their enforcement guidelines. If I was his dad, just send him to Oak Hill and lobby a D1 school for an assistants job in two years.

North Central (where he was attending) isn't an IPS school.  North Central is actually a great academic school.  I absolutely agree with you about Park Tudor, but many of their athletes came in before their freshman year, which means the IHSAA has no jurisdiction over anything.  I definitely think he will be heading for a prep school -- he made enough questionable comments in the media about his North Central team that I'm pretty sure he won't be given a roster spot even if he tries to go back.

All his parents have to say is they want him to have a more spiritual high school experience. I would love to see the IHSAA argue that. Now Cathedral loses out on someone who wanted to attend and Gordon is going to a prep school which is the exact same thing as transferring to Cathedral, except he will be away from his family. The IHSAA has had it in for Cathedral forever. Their investigations in to our academic assistance programs are yearly and never turn up anything. Yet every year they claim theyre going to bust Cathedral for violations. If he transferred to Carmel, no one would say a word.
