Why aren't we recruiting guys from Indiana?

Recommended Posts

Ok lol I'm not ignorant all I was saying was kids from Indiana are more likely to have heart for iu than kids from out of state!!! I would much rather see us recruit kids with heart and good talent instead kids with talent and no heart and I just don't like one and done recruits.

Recruit the Jordan hulls type of players that's all I'm saying.

Fair enough. Considering JB2 is far and away better than any player in that class and will be playing 30mpg, I choose him.

I have such a high regard for the players we get from Indiana who decide to stay in-state.  A lot of the in-state players are just high quality and high class basketball players and students (and i can't think of many that haven't been that way in recent history, keep me honest if you know of some) (EDIT: other than Hallowell :))

So many indiana residents attend this university and, at least to me, having other Indiana residents play in our basketball program is just prideful.  I love seeing a roster full of home grown hoosiers. Just my opinion.  Fun topic.

Who the hell cares where they are from? All that matters is they want to come play for IU. I don't give a crap if they are from Indonesia

The last Indiana recruits:

Etherington-Gone

Hollowell-Gone

Perea- Underachieving greatly

Patterson- Failed summer classes

Devin Davis and Yogi have been the only ones to actually work out. Why do they have to be from Indiana? What people fail to realize time and time again is that kids don't care about tradition anymore. We live in the age of AAU, flashy jerseys, and money. The days of playing for 'ol Indiana because Bailey and Cheaney played on the same court are over. Those days graduated with Hulls.

I started a thread based on this same opinion a while back. The elite talent isn't as concentrated in Indiana as it has been if the ranking services are to be believed.

There are tons of good players in Indiana, but yes.... the rankings lack Indiana players for sure in the next 2 classes. It's going to be impossible to please people who only want in-state players and only want high ranked players.

Best we get this reality out there before the s***storm starts!

What I don't understand is that you make it sound like IU isn't recruiting all of these Indiana kids that want to come to IU. IU is recruiting these kids, but apparently they don't have the heart for IU that you think they do, because they're picking other schools.

I said the last batch of Indiana recruits. Cody hasn't had an effect on the team since he was drafted. Austin stayed, which is why I lumped him in.

No. People outside of Indiana can't like Indiana University. You at least have to be in the lower 48. You know the rules "not eligible for mcdonalds monopoly, not eligible for IU sports"

Wouldn't your bread be Hawaiian rolls? Oh yeah, I went there (see what beer in the afternoon does?)!

Wait Hawaiians can't play McD's monopoly? NEVER moving there. Ever. Even if there's a fire.

Damn, I guess living in Hawaii isn't all rainbows and beautiful beaches. Discrimination!

There are a lot of Hawaiian rolls on this island... There are also a ton of delicious malasadas that cause a ton of Hawaiian rolls.

Anyways, I still bleed red even if I'm across an ocean! I wear my candy stripe pants every once and awhile too.

Well if Etherington is the last batch of Indiana recruits, then so is Zeller. I'm just saying he needs to mentioned with the success stories because it sways your argument by ignoring him.

Also, I would question including Hanner Perea in that group. 2 years at an Indiana high school does not make you the "Indiana guy" that those in this thread are referring to.

We can go round and round on this topic. My point is, just because they are an "Indiana guy" doesn't mean they have more passion or play any better. I was providing evidence that most of the Movement and Etherington never really panned out. My overall point is that we need to recruit who is the best, regardless of where they are from. Cody would have been good at UNC too, he just happened to be from Indiana. He was a National talent. In state doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot anymore as our recruiting this off season has overwhelmingly proven.
