Bad decisions? Yes but I have made a few also before, this is still my team and will support these kids. I hope they both learn from this mistake. They are college kids doing what college kids do, but doing it at the wrong place and wrong time.

For those asking the question of others about whether or not if they drank underage while in college, that question really isn't relevant since most of the people were not on full scholarship. Joe average student is risking his scholarship for offenses committed and doesn't have an athletic department backing him.

Exactly.  Life is a series of calculated risks.  I break the speed limit because I have decided that the likelihood of me getting pulled over for going 60 mph zone in a 50 mph zone is very low and the potential consequence of a speeding ticket doesn't outweigh my desire to drive ten over.  For the average college students, they don't see it as a huge deal to participate in underage drinking and using a fake ID because the desire to have fun with friends outweighs their fear of the potential consequences of getting caught (paying a fine...pissing off your parents...community service).  However, when you're a high-profile college athlete and the potential consequences of stuff like this includes the fact that your arrest becomes a trending topic on Twitter, you have to issue a statement to the press, and you're putting your program, coaches, and teammates under a negative spotlight in the media regionally and even nationally at a time when the microscope is already on the program for poor player behavior...I can't see how the risk of the potential consequences doesn't outweigh your "I want to have fun" desires if you are even remotely attempting to act in a mature and responsible manner.  If you want to act like every other college student and you want to be treated like every other college student when you screw up...then you can pay your own way through college like every other college student.

I kind of want to close my eyes, plug my ears, and hope I wake up soon. This is kind of scary with all of this stuff going on, I really hope the story about the football team and basketball team fighting isn't true.

Most college athletes like to remind people that "they are college kids doing what college kids do" until it's time to talk about compensation of athletes and forming unions and how much the athletes add to the college's profile and financial bottomline.  Average Joe College Student lives on Hot Pockets and ramen noodles? That's just "what college kids do."  Shabazz Napier goes to bed starving?  We need to provide unlimited meals to athletes.

This was extremely well said. It all comes down to realizing the consequences. Not only for yourself, but for the program, your family, and your university.

Probably my favorite Twitter comment about this so far, courtesy of Jarrad Odle ("Gosh, you really don't look a whole lot like the guy on this ID...but you bear a striking resemblance to the dude on this giant poster right next to me...")

I cant help but to think that the stress and depression from this past season could haveed some team members to start consuming alcohol on a more regular basis and to make other poor decisions as well. All we can do is try to support the guys on the team.

Seems like a bit of a stretch...

I really wish iu fans would drop the false outrage and admit the only reason anyone cares is because we had a bad season this year. There were numerous other incidents in the 70s and 80s too.[/quote]

Not sure what's going on with your quote, but the 1st one was mine, and it was satire...the 2nd quote wasn't mine

This parallel could be totally off, but I don't know since I wasn't following then. Did Sampson have as much or more trouble with players staying out of trouble? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Oh yeah. Most of the team other than dj and ej were doing drugs, 20 combined failing grades, Holman threw a plant at Crean and got shot in California while dealing drugs, Ellis had some issues as well.

No one is outraged about the drinking. Being stupid enough to think that as a starter on the basketball team you could get away with using a fake ID during Little 5 week than lying about the incident is what people are dumbfounded over.

Agree, but in general, college students are morons.
