Indiana Rivals predicts us to finish 9th next season

Recommended Posts

I think the 9th place prediction is a sad possibility if current members don't significantly improve. JBjr is going to help but not be the savior. That said,I would hope that this "prediction" actually become a motivation to work on the weaknesses that every player on this team has. Don't think that putting up some shots in Cook Hall is going to do it. Become a student of the game. Tape don't lie. Study tendency and implement workouts that address areas that can and must improve. No one needs to become a student of the game more than Hanner. He has so much potential, and can't really use it. I'm not going to send him to the end of the bench yet. I believe he can make a serious jump if he really commits himself.
All I can say is I am not looking forward to next season. That is depressing because I love my IU basketball. Been a fan for over 50 years.
How can you not be excited for the opportunity that awaits next years Hoosiers!! The games haven't been played yet, hell the roster isn't even set yet. I see nothing but opportunity, be optimistic, you never know what may happen.

I agree that 9th is a possibility. I also believe a top 5 finish is a possibility. I think it depends on a lot of variables, namely offseason improvement from Hanner, Stan, Devin and Troy. If they spend the summer getting better individually, I could see us being similar to '06 Nova. Similar, not necessarily as good.

Next year is what I would call a make it or break it year. That doesn't mean I necessarily think Crean will be gone if we don't perform up to par. It will, IMO, just signify that Crean will not be the one to right the ship at IU.

That said, I'm cautiously optimistic about next year. Hoping for the best

Without knowing what our final roster looks like and what every other teams roster will be, it's impossible to say where we will be. I can see us anywhere from 4th to 10th. Too many variables at this point. Do we land a big or not? Do we have better chemistry? Do our freshmen improve? Who is leaving bc of the oversign? Oh wait.

Nebraska was predicted to finish 12th out of 12 last year. Purdont was predicted to finish about seventh.

Means less than nothing.

It's called coaching. Tim Miles is fantastic. There were a few of us saying watch out for Nebraska when they hired him.

under the Crean era...at least the last 3 seasons...

IU basketball seems to fool the masses in terms of expectation, whether it be on the high end or the low end...

why would this next season be any different?

Xcllnt post. That about covers it.

By the way:

Do we land a big or not? Yes, but not many will think it's sufficient.

Do we have better chemistry? Hell yes. Sadly after the past year, I think it's a given.

Do our freshman improve? They always do.

Ya but do u think we will get in

GO HOOSIERS!!!

It really depends on the leap that the freshmen (and Hanner) make during the offseason. That is the biggest factor, but we also don't know how much RoJo will add. He could end up being an absolute gem.

While I understand the overall depth and talent of the B1G, I find that low of a finish difficult to anticipate. Looking at what our team should have next year, it's no stretch to say that our back-court has the potential to not only be one of the more loaded groups in the B1G, but the country at large (although, that should go without saying). Yogi has shown the ability and potential to be the nations top PG. Further, while he's shown an aptitude for scoring (through slashing and his jump shot) it's evident that Yogi is, at heart, a drive and kick PG. With the addition of JB2, a pure shooter, Yogi will have ample opportunites to kick the ball out to an open teammate who can actually score. Robert Johnson fills a similar role, albeit at a slightly lower level, giving a reliable second option off the bench. The flashes of gritty brilliance displayed by Stan over the course of the seasons should only get better with an offseason of work alongside Yogi. Williams just seems to be a player on the precipise of stardom. Between those 5 players, IU has more than enough talent to finish higher than 9th. While our defense will be suspect, our increased scoring output and a long, long offseason of work should greatly help the team. I also wouldn't count out Crean, who's likely coaching for his very life (well, job). A man with his back to the wall is dangerous.

I'm with a lot of other people on here, I see us between 3-5 in a very, very tight B1G.
