Is Coach Crean feeling the heat?

Recommended Posts

I'm starting to think Crean is gone after next season. And you know what, I don't cate. That would be seven seasons to build a consistent winner.

Even some of the heavies on the oremie board think it's a one year deal now for Crean and the blood seems to be in the water on the street about him. The Lee decision and now Cunningham backing off are the most recent signs of that.

I think perception on his coaching is a lot closer than most would believe.  It has been that way.  I think the major disconnect has been when people want to make a move if there are continued issues.  I am like you.  I think if things go south, next year is the year.  The Scout board you are referencing (How are you by the way HH?  ) believes in making a move ASAP.  Which I get.  However, these are the same guys who get pissed every year we have transfers and players get "Creaned".  They want stability of players to be able to grow.  They continually point to the next shiny object when it comes to recruits.  Isn't this essentially what we have been doing with the coaching?  I personally don't want a quick trigger on either.  I don't think it is Final Four or bust, but we can't deal in extremes for seasons anymore.  17 wins?  No postseason?  Should never happen.  I don't care if he is coming off of 3 final fours.  We went to 2 Sweet 16s in a row.  Our deflections hurt, but hurt gets you bubble in or NIT.  Not 17 wins.  We will just have to see how this year plays out.

Agreed. Indiana has nobody to blame but themselves. Since the Knight firing, every decision made regarding the basketball program has been tge wrong one.
From letting Davis and the players bully them in letting Davis take over, extending him, to not hiring Matta 10 years ago. Hiring Kelvin Sampson when guys like Beillein were available. Hiring Crean when Sean Miller was available.

After all that, we get stuck being perpetually a fringe BIG power. Behind football schools such as Michigan, OSU and Wisconsin.

Isn't payola when a company pays under the table $ to a person in the media, for their endorsement of a product?

That doesn't make any sense...

He is not going to parachute in through the roof of this building and score when we need points....let me ask you this. Do you really think that God is going to help a team that I'm coaching?"

That is not the sign of a blue-blood program and we are a blue-blood program. The next coaching hire needs to be a well-thought-out, long-term solution; not a quick fix that needs to be fixed again in a few years. [/quote]

If so, then this hopefully counts Mike Woodson out.

He's good at more than just transition. Here is where his teams have ranked nationally in offensive rebounding percentage:

2014: 23rd

2013: 7th

2012: 59th

2011: 181st

2010: 89th

2009: 179th

2008: 23rd

2007: 19th

2006: 142nd

2005: 12th

2004: 30th

2003: 6th

Outside of his first three years at IU, I think you will be hard pressed to find a coach that has teams ranked that high consistently. As much as his dribble drive like offense tends to offend Hoosier senses, it is a large part of the reason for the high offensive rebounding rates. I am very confident in saying that because outside of this year with an excellent natural rebounder in Noah, Crean's teams have never been anywhere near the top in defensive rebounding. Until this year, he'd never had a team in the top 100 in defensive rebounding percentage.

Crean might not be the greatest offensive coach on the planet, but his system does work to generate extra possessions. It's more than just a good in transition system.

I don't understand where good offensive rebounding counts as good offense.  We dribble the air out of the ball.  If we miss a lot,we can have the opportunity to rebound a lot.  I'm interested to see if Blackmon changes things.

Hey we aren't tryin to hit home runs we gotta emphasize hitting singles and doubles!

Hahahaha this is classic!
