Vonleh Talks About NBA Choice

Yes this is what I was trying to say earlier I couldn't put it into words

Nothing to see here. Part of a coach's job is to restrict players and keep them from thinking they can do everything. It's great that Noah thinks he could have done more. Most players think the same thing. It's the coach's job to say, "No."

Noah might not like that Crean did that. But, I'm glad Crean did. Much better than Mike Davis letting Bracey Wright do whatever the hell he wanted. Noah is going to be told by NBA coaches that he can't do certain things a lot in the coming years. He better get used to it.

I like your take, but don't you also believe he could have done more? When he drove the ball he was very difficult to stop. We kept trying to feed post but we could have given it to him outside. And yes, Noah had "handlers" and they are the ones that recommended he sit those games with the "injured" foot.

Most recent mock draft for BasketballInsiders.com has him going 8th overall to the 76ers. I guess I'd be cool with him ending up there, Bret Brown is pretty loose in letting his guys do their thing, and theoretically Vonleh should get solid minutes right from the get go.

The thing about Noah driving the ball is that he was very turnover prone. If he had to dribble more than once or twice, a turnover was likely. He also had no clue when to pass. I just don't think Noah driving the ball would have been good as a major part of the offense. The other issue is that the more Noah is outside, the less he is inside in position to get an offensive rebound, which is his biggest strength.

I think Crean handled Noah pretty well. It was better for the team overall to have Noah in the post most of the time. Noah could have done some more things, but the negatives to having him do that outweigh the positives in my opinion.

Him and Noel could turn into a nice combo inside

Yeah especially if they make the right picks with their other draft picks. Could be a nice young team that will emerge in a couple years.

I disagree. We saw his potential in the paint and then in BIG play it seemed like he was only on the court for defense. A huge knock on our offense has always been not getting the ball down low. Vitale called it against UK all 2nd half in the Wat Shot game. We need to run an offense that revolves around freeing up our outside shot by actually having an inside presence. That's why we got beat by Cuse. Their zone knew if we couldn't get it inside, we were doomed, even with Hulls.

That's not really in disagreement with anything I wrote. I was responding to using Noah more on the outside and as a driver. Whether or not he should have been fed in the post more is a different matter.

Ok then getting on the same page, Noah wasn't used to the potential we saw in the 1st half of the season. Not just against the bad teams but UConn and even Syracuse.

I can somewhat agree, but I don't think it was just a Crean issue. Noah was not great at posting up and presenting a target. His timing was off with his teammates on when and where to post. Noah was terrible about recognizing double teams and knowing who to pass the ball to.

I think it would have been great if we had used Noah in the post more, but some of the reasons that didn't happen are on Noah.

Some of it maybe but I can't put all of it on Noah.  At the end of the day feeding the post is something that's been a problem the last 3 years, so part of it is systemic.

I love the kid. He has tremendous potential. He could have scored more if we could have gotten him the ball more. But he still just about averaged a double double. His draft stock is high. But imagine if he stayed one more year and worked on his basics. He would go in top five instead of top ten.

yeah, you're right, but still it was Crean doing evil things. I thought maybe everyone had forgotten about Cody and I could slide one by you guys. Anyhow, it worked out pretty good for him.

And you thought you had me fooled oh never in a million years.

If you can find my gravestone in a million years leave a note on it to tell me if you're fooled yet.

He is the best ever... Considering there was only a few days off for Christmas and he was wanting to get a workout in speaks volumes. Insight ..came in to get pizza after the game ...someone says only mushroom left (kidding of course) he says politely "thanks. I think I'll pass" Just a prize waiting for someone!
