Hollowell & Etherington transferring..

Recommended Posts

Ugh. Truly disappointing if true. It's one thing to berate scholarship players, but the walk-ons? That's out of line. Those guys put in a lot of hard work for very little reward. They deserve nothing but our respect and even more importantly the respect of the coaching staff.

I'm not really cool with berating the departing scholarship seniors, but the walk-on thing bothers me a lot more.

You didn't know?  It's their fault because the bench wasn't loud enough.

Again, one guy leaving for the $$$$$$$$$$$$$ in the NBA. We all knew that was going to happen. Another guy has been in trouble pretty much his entire time at IU. Not real surprising there. Guy three is getting his degree in three years and is going the grad student transfer route to get more playing time. He was also scared to take a wide open shot when that was what he was supposed to be there for. Now, maybe there are problems on the team. I don't know. I don't pretend to know. You say you do know. I don't know if you do or not.

This is poetic

I don't think Bob Knight ever dressed down the walk-ons.  The "team" yes.  The scholarship players, most definitely.

But in this day and age, this situation is a bad omen.  It certainly explains why the walk-ons left.  But it is more of the same, not my fault BS.  CTC better look in the mirror.  The AD better get in there and straighten this out.  Otherwise, we are going down in flames once again.  I am very disappointed.

(PS: Tried to quote, but for some reason it doesn't work.  What am I missing?)

Bob Knight berated pretty much anyone and everyone. I doubt that walkons escaped his path.

Knight took no prisoners w his temper and tirades (cousin/uncles were involved w team directly). He would tear into anyone who he felt needed it, from scholarship players to walk ons to admins of the program. It was ultimate tough love, sometimes without the love.

Crean called a team meeting after the NIT Selection show and went bonkers. Went off about our Seniors lack of leadership and placing the blame on their shoulders. (2 of the seniors were 4 year walk ons who busted their tails in practice and have outstanding GPAs.). Crean went on about how 3/4 of them wouldn't amount to anything in life, be divorced and broke because they don't have any leadership qualities. He basically attacked the seniors & walk ons for this season and it rubbed the whole team the wrong way. ESPECIALLY the walk ons. This is pretty much the gist of that meeting, but it wasn't a good one by any account. Crean then gave the team the week off and the transfers happened on the first day back.

Thanks for sharing this.

I just talked to a few friends of mine involved directly with the team and they verified everything.

FWIW, my "sources" have stated that numerous boosters and members of the Varsity Club doubted Crean even before the Sweet 16 runs.  They obviously weren't too pleased with Glass giving him a ridiculous contract extension xD.

Not sure where to put this but here it goes.

IF all of these allegations are true there needs to be some extremely strict rules in play over the next year or two. (Working under strict rules doesn't work for everyone but needs to be done) the stability if the program is extremely important right now. That includes everything from coaches to the makeup of the team from year to year.

The program won't be successful in the near future if you simply remove the coach. We are not at that level right now. The program won't be successful if there is so much turnover year to year. I'm not counting a player or two leaving early for the pros. Coach has shown players can develop enough to leave early. He now needs to show he can continue to develop 4 year players in a new environment.

I would like to know the source(s)... I can't imagine any coach telling their players that they won't amount to anything in life and be broke and divorced. If that's the case, you'd think guys who actually played and were difference makers would be the first ones out the door. Why would Yogi or Troy Williams, who could play pretty much anywhere, stay? This doesn't add up.

It is hard for me to believe that Crean would pile on seniors like that, specifically the walk ons.  You can believe your sources and I appreciate sharing the information you've heard but unless this comes from a trusted media source or I hear it directly from someone within the program it seems far too outlandish for me to believe.  Calling out that everyone will be broke and divorced?  C'mon now.

I've heard (I don't have "sources", just hearsay) that Crean's ultra nice guy front is exactly that. Just a front. I'm not entirely surprised by this, but I am extremely disturbed/disappointed.

I totally know where youre coming from, because I too would like to know the sources, but I do know from reading season on the brink, that those kids and coaches were called everything under the sun. Some folks are like that, i had coaches in highschool that were nasty everyday no matter how good we did or how poor we played.

Let me restate.  RMK was certainly a tough SOB to everyone.  But he was definately tougher on the "studs" than the walk-ons.

But this isn't about RMK.  This is about CTC.  To blame the two seniors (who played) and walk-ons for this year is pathetic.

By the way, what's Syracuse doing today.  Somebody figured out thier "zone."

I'd love to tell you my sources. But i'd love to keep getting information more. No offense, but you will never have someone answer that question unless their source is no longer affiliated with the program. I post 5% of the stuff I hear. I also get clearance to post anything I do as they obviously know I run this place. If you don't want to believe it, then don't. But don't view me not posting a source's name as anything more than me protecting said relationship. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Don't you think if this occurred and players are angry about it we will likely see this in an actual media source soon?

No chance you see this from a "actual media source". Media have jobs to do, they need access to coaches, players, administration for interviews and credentials. They can't publish reports on all the things they hear because they can't afford to lose access. The media is far more political than you want to believe. There is politics in everything.

Are you saying Dakich wouldn't jump all over this? I dunno for sure but I'd think he'd be all over it.

I wouldn't consider Dakich traditional media as he is a radio host. So he very well could get into it, but on the other hand, he covers a TON of Indiana games, I think this is too personal and close to the program for him to talk about as well.

It's not just about reporting the news and thugs you hear, each journalist etc needs to look out for themselves and their best interest as well.
