I've thought about that too and I would have to go with JBJ just because I think that he is a talent that could start almost anywhere right away. I also like the option to bring Stan off the bench who got a lot of experience this season. He could turn into a really nice sixth man. If it was me I think I would start Yogi, Blackmon, troy, DD assuming he puts in a good summer, and anthony lee should he decide on IU

I think it would be better to start Stan, at least at first. We have yet to see a freshman wing really figure out what he is supposed to be doing in Crean's offense right away. Maybe Blackmon can be the guy who does, but without seeing him actually do it, I'd go with Stan. Let JBJ come off the bench and get acclimated in a role with less pressure. Once he starts to get it, then he can be put in the starting lineup.

I won't go as far as to say we will be top 10... But you make good points and if the team puts the work in this offseason I can see us being top 5 in the B10. I really think we need Perea's game to develop. If he can turn into a 10+rebound per game 3+blocks per game and ~5 points a game plus the addition of Lee, our game inside will be good enough to let our back court go to work.

To start the year I would start Stan over JBJ, but give JBJ plenty of playing time and if he can work his way into the starting 5 great. I actually feel pretty decent about the odds of him returning for a sophomore year if CTC can get through to him. I think hes an elite shooter right now, but to go to the NBA his game has to be more well rounded.

Really, I think the year after next could be the year we are "back" if we get Cunningham in this recruiting class or an impact big man in the 2015 class.

I'm really excited to see the team next year. OP makes good points and I think the team will have its identity next year.

Heres to hoping!

I don't think Dekker will be back. Or that's my gut feeling at least. He would be a big loss for them, but they will always be solid. Michigan will lose Stauskas and Robinson. Plus Morgan who graduates. All opinion, but it's a good possibility.

I just double checked draft express. Robinson is a projected 2nd rounder and Dekker isn't even mentioned. Both will stay IMO. Plus Michigan rts McGary back.

Ohio state is a wildcard for me bc they are adding a lot of talented youth. Defense will likely suffer but their offense surely must be better? Right?

I hadn't looked in a while, but last time I looked Dekker was a first rounder. Now that you said he isn't listed, it looks like he'll stay and Wisconsin will benefit. I still think Robinson will go if he has a decent tournament and I'm willing to be McGary will too. And OSU has to be better on offense next year. I'd say with Scott running the point they will be.

I like OP's enthusiasm. As he said, there are a lot of ifs to make it come true. As a Kansas City Royals fan, I know that the thing about ifs is that they can all go your way or they can all break against you as they so often do for the Royals. Normally, though some of the ifs go your way and some don't.

For now, we can dream about all the ifs going our way. It would be wonderful. However, if we are being reasonable, we shouldn't expect it to happen. It will likely lead to more disappointment next year than we would otherwise have. With what we know now, I think it's reasonable to expect a top half of the conference finish and an NCAA Tournament bid. But, we won't really know what to expect until we know who is on next season's team and we see how players have improved, which we won't find out until we see them next fall against good competition.

I think we can be a much improved team next season even without Noah but until our roster is finalized, I'm not able to envision anything as extreme as being a Top 10 team.  But props to the OP for putting the thought out there.  Nothing wrong with dreaming big as long as you don't talk yourself into expecting a Top 10 team next season.  ;)

How big of a leap, in one summer, are people really expecting from Troy and Stan?  Do they remember what Vic looked like as a sophomore?  I think expecting much more than that is simply unreasonable and setting yourselves up for disappointment, and let's not forget we don't know if either one will work as hard as Vic did because Vic worked his butt off when he was here.  Troy is 100% athlete right now, he has a long way to go.  Stan is more of a basketball player, but he still has a ways to go especially with his shot.  Vic as a sophomore had no 3 point shot, an unreliable mid range and a shaky handle.  It seems like people are expecting them to look like Vic as a junior.  They should be improved, but let's not go over board.

As for not needing a talented big, that is wrong.  This system needs a talented big as much as it needs shooters.  Remember year 3 to 4?  The talented big was the only real difference between the two teams, which is part of why I say year 3 was an under achievement.  This system is bad at utilizing a big, but it still needs that big there to keep the defense honest.  Without that the D can cheat out on the shooters making it more difficult for them.

A top 10 team?  I can't see it.

I think Blackmon will start from day 1.  Do I think he will have some adjustment?  Yes, but at the same time the McDs AAs we've brought in have done pretty well.

What about a lineup of:

Yogi
JB2
Stan
Troy
Lee(speculating)

We'd be playing small but if Coach Crean wants to speed it up I don't think it'd be too bad. Just kind of thinking out loud. Thoughts?

Like I've said before I didn't get to see a lot of IU this past season. I've caught a few games and I know fans have complained about a lack of offensive identity... If we wanted to be a fast breaking team I think this lineup would be great. Its just a matter of if we want to be a run and gun type of team or if we try to force a scheme that doesn't mesh with the personnel.

Personally, I really like this lineup and hope we see it next year.

Crean wants to run and gun, his teams look good when they can do that.  The flip side though is that if the personnel doesn't fit, like this year, he absolutely will try to force it.

If we were to go small like this, I'd be for subbing Rojo for Stan if he proves to be as good of a shooter as we're hearing. That would be some firepower. Not sure how much defense would be played with this lineup, but the 3's would fall.
