What is your favorite thing about IU?

Recommended Posts

I know we have a lot of current students/alumni on the board as well as life long fans. I'm going to be starting as a freshman in August and I couldn't be more excited...

What are some must-see/experiences at IU? Input from anyone is appreciated.

I visited campus once and loved it, just registered for orientation and can't wait. Any fun facts, well kept secrets about life as an IU student, or stories you have from your time there would be cool to share.

I'm so jealous... Graduated in 09. Do you know where you are living yet?

Not positive yet. I applied to the Kelley living learning center, I'm really hoping for somewhere in northwest (Mcnutt is def my preference) What is your opinion of best dorms/neighborhoods?

By the way, couldn't help but notice your founder tag. Props on starting such an awesome site, if I can ever be of assistance let me know I'd definitely be up for modding/writing articles or anything. Can't understate how much I appreciate an easy to navigate and stimulating community for IU.

I had a thread kind of like this a month or so ago. If you can find it, someone gave me a full lenth essay on the bars in Bloomington if that interests you at all lol.

Oh cool, sorry to make a repeat of the thread   :(  I'll def be checking that out though haha, thanks for mentioning it

Nah, it's no big deal. I was just pointing you there because it was unbelievably in depth lol. I'm so glad I got a housing exemption. I didn't want to live on campus at all.

Oh, why not? I guess living in the dorms is annoying from an RAs perspective but it would be cool to meet people easily. Living off campus def is cool though and I hope I can do that starting sophomore or junior year

I've just always avoided the dorm scene. Being in them for football/basketball camps in high school insured I didn't do it.

Haha, yea I've done my fair share of camps in dorms. Definitely not ideal but to me its just part of the college experience. Basically... I'll be happy when I can live in a house of my own.

Maybe some day we will catch up in person on campus. Doing sports broadcasting I'd imagine you'll spend some time around student radio and thats an activity I actually am really interested in getting involved with.

This may be a dumb question, but I know in some states/counties you're allowed into bars at 18 you just cant drink... I found that post from Hovadipo's thread and the guy listed the best bars... is it possible to get in there under 21? Also he referred to the fields as a magical place... what are the fields?

I have so much to learn about being a Hoosier.

August can't come soon enough

The women at IU are very very very good looking(assuming you're a guy) and if you're ever looking for an off-campus party there's probably one not far away whether it's at someone's house or in the middle of a corn field. Ha in a corn field? Thats awesome. Do cops tend to bust up off campus/corn field/frat parties? Do you have any opinion you want to share about Greek Life? Couldn't help but notice theres some very nice looking ladies in Hoosier land. I'm not sure if you guys have ever heard of it, but if you want to see footage of Indiana parties google "Indiana University I'm Shmacked" Theres two videos, one on a football weekend against Wisconsin and one from Little 5. I'm Shmacked is basically just a group of people who go from college to college making recordings of parties and somehow turning a 5 million dollar profit. Not a bad set up haha.

I've been to the Midwest visiting schools/family a lot over the years and I completely love the midwest way of life. After school I plan on making my home in Indiana because I've enjoyed my time there so much. Its just very different from the coast and I really find it quite peaceful.

Yep in cornfields it really happens a lot actually. I've never seen one busted but I've also not been to parties in years. I know nothing about Greek life I've only been on campus visiting friends. There's some current students on here so I'm sure you'll get a lot more replies with a lot more information tomorrow. Best of luck to you in college. Indiana really is an amazing place to live I'm sure you'll love it. I've lived in a few different places and nothing beats Indiana to me. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

My five years on campus in the 80's were great. Won an NCAA title in soccer, basketball. Was in a fraternity and I still keep in contact with those guys today. The spring break trips we went on to Florida were wild. I guess I miss the camaraderie of a close knit campus, the coeds, and the sheer beauty of walking through the older part of campus on a fall or spring day taking in the sights. You don't appreciate it as much when you are there as an undergrad but I have great memories of B-Town.

The nightlife is awesome as well. Just go to class and study Sunday thru Thursday at least!

What the hell? Yeah you definitely didn't go to IU. Parties in cornfields? That doesn't happen.....you'd have to drive several miles off of campus to even do that, which sounds like zero fun. And why you would ever want to do that would blow my mind.

The only party I know of that happens that far out and in a "cornfield" is Swamp Water during Little 5 that Pi Kapps puts on...and is AWESOME.
