What is your favorite thing about IU?

You must bring co-eds to any BTownBanners event at IU! :) lol

Haha does BTownBanners have events? I'd gladly spread the word about here on campus

My five years on campus in the 80's were great. Won an NCAA title in soccer, basketball. Was in a fraternity and I still keep in contact with those guys today. The spring break trips we went on to Florida were wild. I guess I miss the camaraderie of a close knit campus, the coeds, and the sheer beauty of walking through the older part of campus on a fall or spring day taking in the sights. You don't appreciate it as much when you are there as an undergrad but I have great memories of B-Town.

The nightlife is awesome as well. Just go to class and study Sunday thru Thursday at least!

Thats cool, which fraternity were you in if you don't mind me asking? I've been thinking about rushing, but everyone has a different opinion on Greek life so I will just have to see for myself if its for me when I get there. Being on campus during championship seasons must have been something special.

What did you study while you were there?

What part?

Mother Bear's Pizza is the closest to heaven we'll get. During Little 5, don't trust the drunk bus (many times, an idiot will start a fight, then everyone gets arrested). Bloomingfoods has great natural foods to detox, lol. Pizza X cups can furnish your post-college dwellings for years. I lived in Foster Martin, which was a lot of fun- we had several football, soccer, and baseball players there (the Snow brothers from soccer team were a blast)! Take advantage of the campus- none more beautiful. The Ryder film series is a great place to pick up "intellectual" girls. Check out some of the lesser known sports- many times you get in for free. Above all, have fun and live every moment!!

Thanks, mamasa those are some handy tips!

Agreed, the campus is what really sold me on the school.

Is there a dorm that most of the athletes live in or are they fairly spread throughout campus? Would be pretty cool if me and James Blackmon jr were floormates next year

Everything! I graduated in 2003. Lived in Evans Scholars. I love that place. Parties are very easy to find, just talk to people. Bars are wonderful, once you are of age. Nicks, Kilroys, Sports, Bluebird. Intramural sports scene is awesome. Greek system is big if you are into that. Does Dragon Express still exit? Haha. Motherbears of course. Pick up basketball games at hyper and student rec center are great too. So much to love.

I think it says a lot that every alumni I have met from IU talks to passionately about it and that there are so many graduates on this board. Years removed and enjoyed their time so much they're still happy to talk about all things Indiana. I'm pumped

IU has so much to offer I hope I can get to everything! I signed up for the intensive freshman seminar so I will move in August 2nd. More time for me to get acclimated to campus and bug coaches Crean and Wilson

When I was there, a lot of ball players lived in Briscoe, but that's been a long time ago. Not sure if Snow Lion is still there, but it's owned by Dalai Lama's brother.

I do believe that some of the basketball players live in Briscoe from what I remember reading.

I was a Phi Kappa Psi at the top of the hill on North Jordan. It was great being in a house with 85 guys as there was always something to do. At a big school like IU, it helps to have a common bond with a lot of guys. Just pledge the house you fell most comfortable in. Dan Dakich lived in our house so we used to get good scoop on the inner workings of the basketball team. All the Greek houses sit together usually with the sororities at football games and we never missed a game. The first year we were 0-11!

I started out with the intention to major in Business but didn't meet the required GPA in my core classes so I went SPEA with a lot of other people in the same boat I was in. Don't get too caught up with "I have to get in to Kelly Business school or I won't have a chance to get a good job" mentality. I have been in sales and banking jobs since graduation and my IU degree prepared me well.

One of the coolest classes to take when I was there was Coach Knight's coaching basketball class. It was always sold out, so I never got in, but if you were 1 minute late to class, you weren't getting in the door that day as he locked it at 9 am sharp. Best advice I have is to go to class, ask for help from your professors as most are willing to help.

Take some electives that are out of your major, One semester a buddy of mine took, History of Rock and roll, drug use in American society and a sex history class offered. So he actually studied sex, drugs and rock and roll that semester. The history of The Beatles was also offered.
Not positive yet. I applied to the Kelley living learning center, I'm really hoping for somewhere in northwest (Mcnutt is def my preference) What is your opinion of best dorms/neighborhoods?

By the way, couldn't help but notice your founder tag. Props on starting such an awesome site, if I can ever be of assistance let me know I'd definitely be up for modding/writing articles or anything. Can't understate how much I appreciate an easy to navigate and stimulating community for IU.

Oh cool, sorry to make a repeat of the thread :( I'll def be checking that out though haha, thanks for mentioning it
Appreciate that. We are always looking for newbies to help with the content. If that's something you are interested in shoot me an email at btownbanners@gmail.com & we can talk more about it.

Bloomington is an awesome special place to almost everyone that goes there. It's hard to put those feelings into words honestly. The best advice I can give you going into your freshman year is to be flexible, be social and don't then down many invitations to do things. My freshman year in Briscoe, I met a group of guys that I still talk to every week (9 years later). My roommate and I had an open door policy for the first month of school and it allowed us to get to know everyone very quickly. Dorms can be fun, just don't be an idiot in there!

I prefer the Northwest dorms, but that's primarily the type of friends and environment I enjoyed most. To each is own on where they live. Athletes all live in Northwest since it's close to the facilities, it's really fun if they are on your floor. The girl parade out of their rooms is RIDICULOUS. ANd I mean RIDICULOUS!!!

Use the forum as a way to get your questions out, former Hoosiers LOVE talking about their past experiences.

As far as your Greek questions, I would tell you to 100% go to the rush kickoff event, meet the fraternities and go to their parties and events and see if you like them. I did that, but never with the mindset id actually join one, so I didn't. There is a good life in Btown wether you are on the Greek side or not. Just find out if it's a good fit for you and you like the people and go from there.

If you've got any Kelley questions, let me know. Loved that place and got my two degrees from Kelley. Having that on your resume is huge in my experience. That's all I got for now!
