For those wondering why Indiana would turn down the CBI...

Recommended Posts

Here is your field for that tournament. There would be NOTHING to gain and more embarrassment to lose.

The tournament will tip-off Tuesday night when Stony Brook travels to Siena.

The Wednesday schedule includes:

Wyoming at Texas A&M

Morehead State at Illinois State

Radford at Oregon State

South Dakota State at Old Dominion

Fresno State at UTEP

Princeton at Tulane

Hampton at Penn State

I have been a fan for a long, long time, this was the worst Selection Sunday that I have ever seen.  For us to have finished like we did as far down in the bottom of the Big10 with the talent we have is damn near a disgrace.  Excuses have an effective range of zero meters.

On other sites I see people allegedly angry that we turned down the CBI.  I really don't get it.  This team hasn't been able to improve or show any consistency from start to finish, what would this half-bit tournament against mediocre competition provide?  Nothing, absolutely nothing.  What is going to help this team improve going forward is working hard during the off-season.  Work hard, get better.  That is it.  There is nothing left for the 2013-14 season to offer that is going to make these guys one bit better.

It's a lose-lose situation really if IU were to play. If they lose people would say "I can't believe IU lost in the CBI" and if they win people would say "big deal, IU SHOULD win the CBI". Nothing gained at all by playing except a game or 2 of experience and maybe a couple bucks if they get some home games.

I'm sorry, but to say, "We're Indiana, we don't play in the CBI" makes Glass sound like an ass. We played like a team that should be in the CBI. We weren't snubbed of anything other than that. That is a horrible excuse. When I told somebody that was a non IU fan the response was "I hope that program goes down to the point where they are killing to get in the CBI just to do something in the postseason." Yeah, maybe not playing is a good choice, but turn down the offer with something better than We're Indiana. That sounds ridiculous. People outside the program don't think it is a reason not to play.

The CBI is pay to play, that alone is reason for a program like IU to decline.

I've had a hard time trying to figure out what "We're Indiana" means lately because I have seen people use that term on twitter and on here. It comes off as Indiana has a sense of entitlement which I don't think they have. For now the program has lost it's place at the table as one of the elite programs in college basketball. Sure indiana has a rich history in basketball with 5 national titles but in my opinion the program has to get over itself before it can return to what it was.

Nah, we don't need to get over ourselves. We need to remember who we are. More specifically, we need to remember how we became Indiana. McCracken and Knight were very different coaches, but they shared some things in common. In their own ways, they both taught their players to strive for perfection and not to accept anything less. Neither accepted losing or made excuses when they did. That's what led to hanging our banners. We need a coach and an administration that remembers what it means to be Indiana.

I'm with Rayl, to get there we need to hold ourselves to that standard.  Our pedigree says we absolutely should.  No accepting mediocrity, no making excuses for WTF seasons like this one.  Expect greatness and don't settle.
