Who would you hire to replace CTC?

So safe to assume we want a real disciplinarian as the next coach?

Yeah. Though I think most of us thought Crean was a disciplinarian when we hired him, as well as most of his tenure so far

When kids get to start after failed drug tests alledgedly and a dui results in a two game suspension, the cat is out of the bag. Now your team leader getting popped Little 500; it can't get worse. Oh yeah, we also didn't win enough to go to any post season tournament. Ding ding ding.

I haven't been very open about it, but I agree. BUT. If he is disposed of now, we are back to square one. We probably lose JB2, maybe Rojo and God knows who else. That would probably not be in the best interest of this program regardless of whether it needs to happen or not.

Well that is why I said so far and most of his tenure. Most of us hadn't heard many things about kids doing stupid things until the drug tests this past season.

Agreed. The sooner the better. Its sickening to watch Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, etc hire these great coaches while we get stuck with guys like Crean, Sampson and Davis. smh

Can we stop the false outrage and Admit the only reason anyone cares is because we had a bad season this year? There were numerous other incidents in the 70s and 80s too.

Hey now, Crean's winning percentage was a phenomenal 66%.  If we didn't lock him up he might have pushed Coach K aside.

This may sound ridiculous, but maybe Larry Brown? He's great with X's and O's. I know hes a journey man coach, but hes (to my knowledge) been able to build pretty good foundations every place he has been. Obviously he isn't a long term solution, but he could "right the ship" so to speak until a good long term option came along...

I realize this is unlikely given that he is only going into his second year at smu. But its cool to think about  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You make a good argument, but would you really want to bring in a 75 year old coach knowing we'd have to replace him in a few years?

Thats definitely not ideal. But I mean, he still has the energy to build a program like SMU into something very formidable from nothing. He's been successful at Kansas and UNC. Played professionally. Coached professionally. Theres probably nobody more well connected in the world of basketball.

Luring him from SMU would clearly not be easy. And his age is definitely a deterrent. But would I take maybe three years of Larry Brown endorsing my program, coaching and recruiting? Yeah, I would like that. I think it would be kind of a revitalizing shock to the program. A move that gets people to go "wow"

Brown pulled in the #2 recruit in the nation (I chose the highest ranking I've seen) to SMU. Pretty impressive. I wouldn't want him a due to his age, but the guy can get it done.

I'm simply saying that I'd rather hire a proven, younger coach because he could stay here for a long time if he has success here. Age is too big of a factor in my opinion, when talking about Larry Brown.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association today barred Kansas, the defending basketball champion, from post-season play in 1989 and placed the school on probation for three years for recruiting violations. Kansas will be the first N.C.A.A. champion in basketball not allowed to defend its title.

In addition, the Jayhawks will not be allowed to pay for campus recruiting visits in 1989 and will be stripped of one scholarship during the first year of the probation.

The N.C.A.A. also ordered the school to show cause why it should not be penalized further if it fails to disassociate three unnamed boosters from the program
The N.C.A.A. said it seriously considered shutting down the Kansas basketball program for an entire year. Only Southern Methodist's football program has been punished with the so-called ''death penalty,'' which can be used for repeated violations.
Published reports have linked Vincent Askew, a former Memphis State guard, to the inquiry, although the N.C.A.A. announcement today did not identify anyone. Askew was recruited in 1986 by Larry Brown, then coach at Kansas, and spent that summer on campus, but he returned to Memphis without playing for the Jayhawks.

Off topic, but FYI he's #1 in 247s new updated rankings.
