I still say that line is pure BS.
Honest question almighty JS did you know Vic would leave early? Look back to November 2012, show me where anyone was predicting Victor leaving for NBA early.

The way he was playing even early in the year the staff should've known it was a very real possibility.

To say know one saw it coming means even during the year no one knew, and that is either a complete lie or they were blind.

Since we mentioned Cody and the Syracuse game here are his film which I will never watch :o

I wish I hadn't watched that. I had done a pretty good job forgetting a lot of that...

Edit: No computer don't make it giant again in the quote! That just renews the depression!

Man you are spot on you could tell as soon as he was emerging as a player of the year candidate. How can you not realize that and get ur ass on the trail right away?

They have limited access to players during the summer, but it's still more access than we have as fans.  You mean to tell me that at no point they thought "man, this guy has made a huge leap he could leave early"?  Really?  Really?

I think by December, we started having arguments this was happening.  Those were as heated as Crean arguments now.  Night in and night out he was just the best player on the court and it wasn't close.  It looked like the leap we expected Zeller to have.

It's almost like, preseason draft boards mean nothing.  Go figure.

Well, in the fall he was listed as a 2nd round talent of 2014.  That is when the arguments truly began.  Some just couldn't "see" that being possible.  When we were lighting up cupcakes he was only playing like 20 minutes, but was the man in those 20.  It was hard for some to fathom when he passed Zeller.  By the end of the year nobody questioned it.  It turned into a bunch of, "What is wrong with Zeller this year?" threads.  They were a fun reprieve from the constant Crean threads.

Yeah and look at how that leap turned out he is totally nonexistent now in the pros.

I actually read on ESPN (Insider) that Zeller was the most likely of this class to breakout next season.  They liked how he played down the stretch.  To this point, I think Burke, MCW, and Vic are the only ones I can see being consistent going forward.
So, no answer to a surefire coach worthy of a couple of buy-outs that will without a doubt lift the program to the next level? I'm really glad we have level headed people in the positions that make the decisions.
Sigh. This is where you find comfort. Because there are no sure fire coaches who would absolutely leave and come here and be an improvement then we should ignore:

We were terrible down the stretch last year (5-4) over 39 days after winning at MSU.

We have had two top ten classes (2012 & 2013) and a top 25 class in 2011 yet we had no one prepared to take over this year.

We have had 3 players arrested and allegedly another 3 fail drug tests.

While we look to be better next year it does not look like we are building a championship level team for the future.

We have no commits for 2015 yet.

We lost Calbert who could have been an assistant here but chose to be an assistant elsewhere. Some pretty good sources have said he would not return if Crean were here.

We just lost our primary recruiter after our AD say we would not be outspent.

Crean himself just said this team, which includes guys who left but also was directed at guys like yogi, struggle to make good decisions.

None of these alone are terrible but it is becoming a cumulative thing. Crean will get another year and if he can right the ship great the seat cools. If he cannot, then it is time to let him go.

It was great to win the Big Ten last year and it was an accomplishment for sure. This year was equally bad though. We have not finished this poorly in the Big Ten in a long time (I am not counting the other times Creans team finished lower since he was rebuilding.).
