Because the other thread is not open to replies....

Hello, I'm Rayl. I was on HSN 1.0 under the same name. You can find me on various other sites as GregA. I'm also on several Scout sites with too many sock puppets to keep track of.

I am glad this site is no longer the wasteland it once was also, I guess. But I have been here and seen its growth welcome Rayl to BtownBanners. You will like it here as does everyone who is truly a Hoosier.

In his defense... After 4-5 months it was pretty slow moving. Especially compared to the high traffic sites. tumbleweed-o.gif

Hey, it's cool. Everyone knows the wasteland was what you had to go through before finding the Holy Grail. Well, at least geeky English majors like me know that. But, whatever. Somewhere there is a fisher king with a lance through his groin (jaybob?) just waiting for btown banners to find him and the grail he protects. Almost there now that Rayl is here. :cheese:

HI there!  I'm Vince, but everyone calls me Pappy.  38 years old.  Born and raised in Mooresville, Indiana, I have been a lifelong Hoosier Basketball, Notre Dame Football, Indiana Pacer, Indianapolis Colts, and, since I am a proud graduate of there, all things Sycamores. I have a beautiful wife and a 20 month old daughter who is my world.

Approximate Age and Location: Late 30's living in Terre Haute, but am in Lincoln, Nebraska for work (construction management),

I'm sorry but who the **** cares

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Some people on forums like to know the people they're posting with.  I've done this on several other forums, and it makes it more personal.  I can see, that you are the type of person that doesn't care about that.  Oh well, to each his own.

Wat? You don't care about me? I'm offended, bro.

OK. Not really. I like hearing about other people and their Hoosier ties. If that does not matter to you, that's cool. I'm certain that I give less than a **** about something you like. I could post how much I don't care about whatever that is when you eventually post about it. But, let's call it even instead and make the mods' job a bit easier.

I'm Eric, this is my first post though I've been lurking for a while now. Day job clerking at a law office, musician by night. Married, no kids. Wife and I are both IU grads.

Meaning behind username: It's a reference to the Morrissey album Vauxhall and I, which soundtracked many a walk to class down 3rd Street or along the Jordan River.

Approximate Age and Location: Late 20s, New Albany, IN

Are you a born and raised IU fan? Hard to say. Neither of my parents are really sports fans at all, though I did watch IU games with my uncle when I was a kid. I was kind of "feral" as a sports fan when I was a kid and had to figure out all the narratives, rivalries, etc by myself. My area of southern Indiana (right across from Louisville) has always been kind of a 3-way axis of fandoms (IU, UK, UofL), but I always identified most with IU as a kid.

When you first knew you were an IU fan? When I was a kid and made up my mind that I wanted to play for RMK on the way to my illustrious NBA career that I was sure I was going to have (hahaha).

What sports did you play in High School and College? None, though I did play power forward for one year in the New Albany Mini-League when I was 11. I wasn't good, though I pulled a few boards and managed one great rejection against the kid who was regarded to be the best in the league.

Besides IU, favorite sports teams? I don't really follow any other teams closely, but sentimentally I'd say the WKU Hilltoppers since I attended one semester there.

Did you attend IU? Yes. Graduated 2007. Diploma on the wall.

What is your favorite IU Basketball Memory? The 2002 tournament run. Even though we came up short, it was the first time I remember seeing that kind of excitement about IU (I was alive in '87 but too young to remember it). Me and all my friends were psyched. I remember going over to my friends' house once and he'd mowed a huge IU logo into the grass in his backyard. My other friend's dad ran the flag up and down his (busy) street after one of the wins. Stuff like that. I was a junior in high school at the time and that I think was a big part of confirming to me that I wanted to go to IU.

Who is your favorite basketball player of all time? Kind of an obvious choice but I gotta say Victor. It's not just that he's a great player, it's that he also embodies the very notion of "team leader." It was so great to watch him harness his potential in his time at IU .

What is your favorite IU Football memory? "Coach Hep Wants You" posters blanketing the campus in the spring of '05.

Who is your favorite IU Football player? What Rayl said.

Best IU Sports game ever attended? Okay, confession time: I've never actually gone to one in person. Like I said before, I didn't grow up in a big IU-centric environment, so I never went with my parents the way a lot of other people might have. Then, my time in Bloomington coincided with the darkest days of the Davis years. I still supported the team and watched the games on TV when I could, but morale was low around town. For most of my time there it didn't really feel like I went to a "basketball school," if you can believe that. My friends and I always talked about going to a game but never got around to it. (We did go to Davis' last Hysteria in '05 however). My last year was Sampson's first year. I was excited about Gordon, but really by that point I was kind of checked out (major senioritis, plus leery of Sampson based on what I knew about him). Honestly it's really been since I graduated that my IU fandom has really blossomed (and that includes the early Crean years). It's as much an emotional thing, maintaining that connection to part of my past, as it is about day-to-day basketball. I'm determined to make it up for one next year.

What brings you to this board? I love the 2-screen experience during games, following the posters on here and also IU people on Twitter. Especially lately, coming together to kvetch really eases the sting of these last few losses. This drives my wife crazy, as she wishes I would just watch the game, but I love the sense of community.

Meaning behind username:  It is my original handle from the scout.com network.  I initially signed up for a Bears message board on there so I chose a legendary Bears player as my username.  I've ended up keeping the same handle across other IU message boards.

Approximate Age and Location: Late 30's, Fort Wayne IN.

Are you a born and raised IU fan?  Yes.

When you first knew you were an IU fan? 1986 as I followed IU through a full season for the first time and they just happened to win it all.  ;)

What sports did you play in High School and College?  Played football in high school.

Besides IU, favorite sports teams?  Bears, Cubs, Blackhawks, Pacers.

Did you attend IU? Yes, class of 1999.

What is your favorite IU Basketball Memory?  The 1987 championship run.

Who is your favorite basketball player of all time?  From an Indiana standpoint, Calbert Cheaney.  From any other standpoint, Reggie Miller.

What is your favorite IU Football memory?  Beating Ohio State and Michigan in the same season back in 1987.

Who is your favorite IU Football player?  Randle-El.  He was so electric and he was the man for most of my college years.  The team never lived up to the hype but Antwaan did all he could.

Best IU Sports game ever attended?  The game where IU beat Temple at Assembly Hall on a late three pointer by AJ Guyton.  I was sitting directly underneath the 1987 championship banner for that game.  It was a thrilling finish to witness live!

What brings you to this board?  Familiar faces and I got frustrated with the 247 board.
