What are your feelings on Coach Crean?

Recommended Posts

Wait, there were actually ways to defend Mike Davis at the end?  About the only defense I heard when I was at IU was "but he's a nice guy", when he wasn't playing the race card to get an undeserved raise.

Kind of sadly enough, "he's a nice guy" seems to be one of the major positives in some IU fans eyes for Crean as well. I don't want a guy to be a dick as a human being, but "he's a nice guy" shouldn't always be one of the top things you list as positives for a head coach

Coach Crean is a good person, but he just will never be able to turn IU into an elite program. He has had plenty of time.  I don't think he should be fired because, honestly, I don't think IU is considered by anybody outside of the state to even be near an elite destination anymore.  Since leaving Indiana, I have learned how pedestrian most of the country considers our basketball program. The school needs to either invest a lot in updating the facilities or face the fact that IU is just a middle-of-the-pack B1G, tournament bubble team.

Gee, what a savant.  Glad you know what coach can and can't do.  Why the hell are you not our coach then?  It kills me when some jackleg pulls up to some keyboard somewhere claiming they know what coach can and cannot do.  What a schmuck.

A person can look at Crean's track record and say he's probably not the guy to win a title here, or even make a Final Four.  In his 15 year career the only trend he's established is mediocrity.

Look at what he has done. His teams underperform every single year. I mean if you enjoy IU being a perennial bubble team, then more power to you.

Mike Davis's winning percentage at IU was 59.3%, Tom Crean's is 51.9%

Not sure what you're so defensive about. That guy was pretty much spot-on with everything he said. The "this is Indiana so EVERYONE should come here, IT'S A PRIVELEGE" is very, very near-sighted when looking at the big picture. Also, why would anyone believe Crean can do more than what he's already done? He hasn't proven otherwise.

Why berate someone for stating their opinion? You don't post any factual evidence arguing the other way.

Obviously, you were looking for a response for your statement.  If you take winning percentages as apples to apples for the situations they came into, then you won't get a realistic discussion.  If you discuss facilities like you did in your other post, it is obvious you are no IU fan.  Look, some of us have been around a while.  You took the time to find out about an IU site, yet you don't know about our facilities?  If you really want to post here, please don't troll.  I don't care what fan base you come from.  Fans from all over are welcome if you want to post in a civil manner.  Just don't leave a leave a mess on our floor.  You are the guest here.  Keep that in mind.

Hey man.  Please keep the name calling out of the posts.  This is a place for discussion.  It was obvious he was trolling for a response.  When you come with a response like this, it only opens yourself up for attacks.  We don't want to punish people for things that can be avoidable.  Obviously you want to be here more than he does.  Just let us do our thing.

...... Eh, that is skewed a little bit given what he inherited. I don't buy the current issues should be put on his first years here, like some IU fans have. But citing something like win percentage and not acknowledging what he walked into doesn't make sense

Timmy Boy Tebow has a pretty good Winning record as well... A lot goes into that winning % number :)

Okay, I know Crean signed Zeller and for that he deserves a lot of credit. With that being said, did Crean turn this program around or did Zeller? I've heard people say that Cody was the reason Yogi signed. Has anyone else heard this? Just wondering what some of you all think. Oh, and by the way, I enjoy the forum.

Cody's commitment was a huge tipping point for the program and it certainly helped us in recruiting the 2012 class imo.  One of the first things Cody said after making his decision was more or less "okay who wants to join me?".  Of course, maybe people forget this now but Austin Etherington did a lot of recruiting for us too including recruiting Cody.  As I recall, Austin was buddies with a lot of these guys so while as a player he may not go down in the record books but I think his influence deserves some recognition too.

I know some of these people on here have destroyed you for these comments but its true. I agree with you 100%..Indiana just isnt an elite destination anymore. I think we need to make alot of changes to the facilities, uniforms and etc. Yes I said uniforms, you traditionalists step back. What tradition? We haven't done crap since '87. How much longer do you need to realize that we aren't just elite anymore. Hell 2 weeks ago we stormed the freaking court for beating WISCONSIN! We owned them for years. Yes I know we lost 12 straight or whatever it was but still its Wisconsin. If we're truly elite and "IT'S INDIANA" then why in this world would we ever storm the court? Don't understand why this guy was being called a schmuck. Maybe you're still stuck in the 80's

It appears Vonleh is gone after this year, and the window may again close for IU. Why would any top tier big even consider playing in this offense?

And winning Big 10 championships and producing guys like Calbert Cheaney and Oladipo must qualify as "not doing crap."

Noah Vonleh needs at least one more year of development in college, and I hope he realizes that and stays.

Crean can at least tell top tier bigs that Cody got the most shots in his two years here, but that was a different team and offense.

Hmmm.....I would feel inclined to point out that its been changes from our traditions that seem to led us to where we are today. You can change the uniforms if you want, but that's not going to put banner #6 up. Facilities are getting a major upgrade already. Personally it seems the more we buy into trying to run NBA style offenses the more we maintain mediocrity. That's what we need to upgrade.
