No surprise here at all. I've been expecting this all along. I just hope whatever connection we have with him, we can strengthen it. If we land Thon for 2015 I'll be goo goo gaga for 2 full years. 1 year in anticipation and 1 year watching a budding superstar! I am not convinced we still lead but we have a fair shot.

He isn't eligible for Draft until 2016. Doubt he does 2 years at prep then draft, if he can get reclassed.

Goodman's making it sound like if he does the Canada thing, he can try to get into the league next year. That's how I'm interpereting it.

Edit: From what I'm seeing, this handler situation is about to get really messy. Just speculation, but I'm seeing money linked to the handler, and Thon might be older than what we think. Like I said, no concrete, but a bunch of stuff being thrown around on the ole tweeter machine. Not liking this.

Ouch, I guess I'll simmer my expectations then. Kasongo and Thon make me think the Swanigan situation is different. We don't seem too scared by certain handlers so I imagine more to that story. Anyway, more bummer news then I guess.

From what I read, Goodman never said anything about the NBA or the draft. He said professional, which would be a Mudiay type situation. Go overseas, get paid a lot of money, then go to the NBA when you're eligible. Goodman's specific words were "bypass college altogether"

Yeah I read into that a little too far. If his ultimate goal is the NBA, won't going to Canada take him longer? Provided he could reclassify here.

He can still reclassify if he is in Canada, as long as he has the credits to graduate and still meet every requirement to get into his college of choice (any college). If he goes to Canada just to go pro, it doesn't really make sense. If you're gonna go pro overseas in one year, why not do it now? It isn't like he doesn't have the ability right now.

 

All in all, I'm confused by the situation, but not completely turned off. Until I learn there is more fishiness to the story, I'm on board. Hope this doesn't turn into a bigger mess than it needs to be. Seems as if his "guardian" is taking advantage of him and Matur.

Yeah there was an awesome article in SI a while back on Thon and he's a great kid, but this handler is clearly taking advantage of him, and it sucks. I was thinking the same about him going overseas now, but from what I've read in that article and in other places, he REALLY values his education.

Goodman also said that he felt bad for Thon because of this whole mess. Just another example of some greedy a********** messing it up for a kid that could have been something really special just so he can get his fingers in the pie. Nothing has happened yet, but imo this whole situation doesn't bode well for him. (three high schools, three AAU team)
