(2016) C Thon Maker

Recommended Posts

Adam Zagoria @AdamZagoria
Ed Smith says he and Thon Maker were impressed w/ the NBA experience on the St. John's staff and they stand a good chance for an official

The staff has NBA experience but their squad is terrible. Thon will be Ben Simmons 2.0 and go to a school that will be terrible but he will put up big numbers

I think the big numbers are all that really matters.  Thon is a meal ticket!

It seems like every time a recruit starts to fade with interest in our school, everyone comes out of the woodwork saying they don't want him anymore.

Thon is a beast and a game changing recruit, don't fool yourself.

You are certainly correct, but he is not a program changer, he will not be around long enough for that.

I have to disagree with ya, biteoftheapple.

I have been following Thon for a number of years now and i've said it before, he/Matur/family value education. From his statements from articles a while back (sorry, i can't remember where to find them, maybe in the posts earlier in this forum) his goals are different from the majority of the players these days. A college education is held in high esteem for him and his family (and culture). The pundits always put him in the same bracket as striving for the NBA above everything else ~ yet, he has never....never said anything to support that. I believe wherever he plays, his education completion will be his priority regardless of the guardian's wishes.

In your defense, the articles were a few years ago and things change (and i haven't been following as close as i used to). ok, i'll shut up now. Come on @thon14 ~ don the candystripes!

I see what you're saying but there have also been plenty of one and dones that have been absolutely huge for schools. Most recently Jahlil Okafor. I understand he had a good supporting cast but so would we. And I also understand Thon is raw, but in college, raw can succeed.
