(2016) C Thon Maker

Recommended Posts

I think it's now worth taking a half season of Thon considering the loss of Perea and Davis.

Agreed. I wasn't too high on the half season but aftee losing two bigs like that I think it's now worth it.

Team Chemistry May Be Strained.

I agree. But at this juncture or at least these last two seasons with all the off court issues we've had I don't think we've had good team chemistry at any point. Not going after you or anyone I just think all the talk about him hindering team chemistry is not a huge issue. I think he would fit in really well with this group.

I think too often team chemistry is an easy cop out. Assuming Thon isn't a diva, lets say off court chemistry isn't disrupted in a negative light. On court, it takes a while to adapt to playing with new teammates. But, if Thon can get his feet wet in practice and garbage time, he could develop into a contributor come March. Then, we would likely be the favorite to land his brother and he would have some experience and could be our star during the '16-17 year. Consider me on the Thon train

Matur Maker is class of 2017, so Thon would have to stay until his junior season to be able to play with him if they went to the same college.

I don't see any way Thon stays more than 1 and a half years in college, assuming he starts this December.

Even if they don't stay and play together, Thon playing at IU would give us a huge edge in landing Matur

i thought they specifically said they wanted to go separate ways for college...

I haven't followed their recruitments that closely, I suppose it's possible but given that they visited together/have traveled the world together I figured they'd want the same college.

"Thon Maker's guardian says Indiana & ASU both have a plan in place for Maker to spend 1 1/2 yrs on campus beginning December. Story later"

ARDSLEY, N.Y. — Indiana and Arizona State talk the most with Thon Maker’s guardian and say they have a one-and-a-half-year plan for the 7-footer if he were to arrive on campus in December.

Kentucky is also in touch with Ed Smith, who said he hasn’t heard from Kansas “for a while.”

As of now, the plan is for Maker to complete his schoolwork in the fall and then head to college at the semester break between the 2015-16 season. He is currently projected as the No. 28 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by DraftExpress.com, but Smith said Maker could possibly wait until 2017 for the NBA. “I don’t want to put a one-and-done on it. You finish high school, step one,” Smith said. “When you’re ready and your body is ready for the pro game, step two.” He added: “There is no one-and-a-half year plan in place. It is when he is ready. If it takes 3 1/2 years then so be it. The feel is that if he went mid-year he would be more effective in Year 2 because he would have had the summer and the fall to get better.”

Indiana hosted Maker and Thomas Bryant for a game this season, and has already landed Bryant for next season.

“I deal mostly with [assistant coach] Chuck [Martin of Indiana] and Chuck says mid-year or next year [fall 2016] is all good and they have a plan in place for for [Maker],” Smith told SNY.tv at the Under Armour stop here. “So that’s his basic plan with that. If he came in mid-year, they would ease him into it, knowing that he has a year-and-a-half plan.

“We all know basketball. It’s hard to come in and miss the summer, miss the fall and come in mid-year. That’s ridiculous to try to come in and make a jump like that. If we go full year [beginning 2016-17], then he’s there for the whole year. There’s not a time clock on when he goes [to college] or when he doesn’t.

Despite my reservations-------I have to say the thought of Thon for one and a half years as opposed to just a half year sounds a lot better.

Yes, I could buy into a year and a half commitment from Thon but if it looks like it's only for 1 semester, I'd pass.
