Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis running back Chris Evans tells 247Sports that Indiana has offered.

The Hoosiers are first to extend a scholarship to the nation's No. 3 all-purpose back in the class-of-2016 according to 247Sports.

"Pretty big," Evans said. "It's starting to open my mind that coaches are seeing I can play on the next level. I'm really grateful."

It's been a great weekend for Evans, who on Friday, helped lead Ben Davis to a 40-36 regional championship victory over Warren Central with 163 yards rushing and two touchdowns along with 55 yards receiving and two more scores.

For the season thus far, Evans has rushed for 852 yards and 14 touchdowns, while adding another 659 yards receiving and 10 scores.

Evans has been to Bloomington several times including twice this fall with plans to return for the Purdue game over Thanksgiving weekend.

"It's close to home. I know a lot of people down there, players, relatives, ex teammates, ex opponents," Evans said. "Antonio Allen has been a real big part of my thinking about IU. I look up to him as a brother.

"I know they have a great offensive coordinator in Coach (Kevin) Johns and they utilize their weapons like Shane Wynn on offense and I like that."

Other schools showing interest in Evans includes Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue. He visits the Spartans on Saturday.

Ben Davis '16 APB Chris Evans (@Kidnplay_abc123) named to 1st team @ArmyAllAmerican All-Combine Team http://247sports.com/Article/US-Army-All-American-Combine-247Sports-All-Combine-Team-34394161...

- Chris Evans, Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis: Tested very well, running a 4.49 on a very slow track. Evans is also a good route runner that made several plays downfield. Michigan State and Indiana are the early favorites.

Steve Wiltfong @SWiltfong247
Indianapolis Ben Davis RB Chris Evans ran 4.40 at Best of the Midwest Combine today, follows that up with a 4.37.

The nation’s No. 8 running back Martell Pettaway from Detroit (Mich.) King will make his way to Indianapolis, where he’ll run into the country’s No. 4 all-purpose back Chris Evans.

Michigan State could ultimately land both.

While the Spartans are the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite for Pettaway, he also has offers from Illinois and Iowa. MSU could be next to offer Evans, who has been tearing up the camp circuit this winter. Indiana should be considered the team to beat at this point early in the process.

#MichiganState is the leader for #INPrep50 RB Chris Evans. Find out 2 teams that could leap the #Spartans http://wp.me/p2mWG2-9fw  #INPreps

There is still a chance for in-state school Indiana to land Evans, as he will continue to build a relationship with the Hoosiers. Evans has made several trips to Bloomington and will likely make a few more before deciding on a school. Another program Evans mentioned in the running would be Illinois.

Pretty good numbers last season.

185 rush 1249 yds 18 tds
51 rec 576 yds 10 tds
