My daughter introduced me to The Hu maybe a year and a half ago and that is pretty wild. Can’t do a lot of it, God knows, but it makes for an interesting change up occasionally.

Here is one of the most unusual pairings you might run across.  She and Nikki Sixx formed a friendship over the years, and they did this to help Covenant House to help with children homelessness.  RIP, Dolly.

Most country covers of rock songs are usually just not very good, but this actually sounds great.  She did a rock album called Rockstar a few years ago, and the song with Rob Halford of Judas Priest called Bygones is really good.

She did a live cover of “Stairway to Heaven” that I saw somewhere and I didn’t necessarily love it but it’s Dolly freaking Parton and she could do anything.

One of the truly great humans.

I did see a story yesterday about her asking Robert Plant if it she could change a little bit of the song if she did it, and he told her he would be honored for her to do anything she wanted in the arrangement because it would be his honor.  Most everyone in music loved her.  I just saw a letter Eminem posted from her when he got in the Rock HOF, and she was sorry she couldn't meet him.  She was a class act.

Alex Chilton contextualized the song to incorporate the real personal turmoil of just having popped his last available Valium.

Alex sang this song to Lesa Aldridge, lead singer for The Klitz, who had recently dumped him for his frequent Memphis collaborator Tommy Hoehn.

Whitney was a five star talent. 
Alex Chilton was fast, physical, and relentless.

RIP Cassandra Wilson. Voices don’t get smokier than hers. Not my usual thing but she did a version of Van Morrison’s Tupelo Honey a long time back that still blows me away. To the extent that she had any widespread notoriety is was probably this being used in True Detective.
