Pat Knight wishes dad would just let it go

Recommended Posts

“Life is short,” Pat Knight says. “You move on.”

He wishes his dad were the same way. He harbors hope his old man will appease Indiana and return to a game one of these days, if only to hear the deafening roar from the Assembly Hall crowd one more time.

Pat Knight has been urging his dad to do that for years.

“As his son, and as a former player, I’m not telling him not to go,” Pat says. “You saw the reaction he got when he went back to Ohio State (in 2011)? I told him he’d get that reaction times 100 if he went back to Indiana.

“I’ve tried, man, I’ve tried. Me and (former IU players) Scott May and Quinn Buckner, we’ve tried. We’re working on it. But the guy just doesn’t budge. It’s really not a big deal to him. He’s always done it his way, and right now, he’s pretty content just hunting and fishing.”

At this point, Pat Knight can’t say if The Return will ever happen.

“He is Indiana basketball,” he continues. “We all get fired. It happens. To me, his legacy there outweighs that. And it’s not like any of us are getting any younger.”

I think most of us wish this would happen. Good to see that those close to him do too.

Eh, there was a time I would have an emotional answer one way or another.  I thought IU would turn into the Chicago Cubs after 2 coaches decimated our program, and then Crean came in to rock bottom.  But, as polarizing as that man is to some, he represents the best qualities that made RMK popular.  He is all about education, doing it the right way, and working hard.  If you couldn't do those under RMK, you were gone for the most part.  That is the IU way, not just the RMK way anymore.  I hope he comes back, but I don't think it will happen.

I no longer have an emotional answer, but I damn sure would have a very emotional reaction were it ever to happen.

There wouldn't be a dry eye in Assembly Hall if it ever did, and CTC would be right there getting choked up with the rest of us.

You can also be sure that RMK would have an extremely emotional reaction. Kudos to Pat, Scotty, and Quinn. It would be...

Awesome.

You can't think of Indiana basketball without thinking of the legend Bobby Knight. If he would step foot in AH the reaction would cause the world to damn near stop spinning. Like it was said Bobby Knight is Indiana basketball.

At this point, I don't really care.  If Knight comes back, awesome.  But if he doesn't, no skin off my balls.  I'm tired of his self-serving attitude.  I'm over it and moving on, with or without Robert Montgomery Knight.

Good to hear, Naples.

I would hate to think that RMK coming back would result in skin off your balls!
