If I was Crean I would be sending him NBA highlight reels daily of Wade, Deiner, Novak, his other Marquette NBA guys, VO, Zeller, Vonleh, and even Troy from last night, and in each note ask how many guys Steve Alford has put in the NBA.

So much more quality development and potential realization and in turn, utilization,

I think Wilkes is thinking he can go live in Southern California which would be a totally different lifestyle, be THE man, and still play for an Indiana guy.

I'd hate to be the guy who says I told you so, and I hope I don't have to because it really hurts the program, but I'm sticking with my original prediction that IU doesn't land Wilkes or any of the top in-state talent this year. This will mark the 6th year in a row that Indiana Mr. Basketball doesn't go to.... Indiana.

I really, really want Wilkes but not for the reason of needing top in-state talent to go to Indiana. My want for Wilkes is driven by the need for us to stay relevant on the national stage and continually be competing for B1G Championships and having a chance to make a tourney run every year. We had it last year, we have it this year, and that needs to continue. IU should never have a year where they are not consistently ranked in the top 25 so missing on Wilkes may put that in jeopardy. Then again, if we land a Bamba or Richards that may change that.

I believe the staff has done all they can to this point and that there's a good shot he goes to IU. Just will have to see how it all shakes out from here.

Very disappointing if true. Crean has done all he can with Wilkes.

Yeah it sucks cuz I'm sure Crean will get wrecked by the fanbase if we miss Wilkes, but the team has performed at a high level, sent lots of players to the NBA, demonstrated some consistency of late, is poised for a great year, and is recruiting impact players.

I am shocked you would think you know what Wilkes thinks and utilize your unbiased opinion to use that along with no information to say one way or the other he is going to UCLA. I. Am. Shocked. I told you so.

Yep.. he's been recruiting him since he was in 4th grade. Has been on him since day 1.

I will not be satisfied with we gave it all we had and he just didn't come here. Crean and company get paid big money to run this ship. If we can't consistently land good in-state talent than sory but that is not good enough for me. This is Indiana, a hot bed for talent. If Groce can get a top 5 class at Illinois when they have sucked every year, there is a problem .

I have no idea if these kids follow boards such as ours or not - some maybe; most probably not.  But IF Wilkes has been checking in our our board as well as that of UCLA and IL, I'll bet he's ROFL at the angst he's generated among the fan bases.

I'm keeping my eyes on this. I am still thinking we get Wilkes. If not, I'll be disappointed too but I'll wait to see who our 4th and 5th recruits are before going nuts.

I want talent and good kids. From wherever. The Indiana thing isn't as big to me as it is others but getting top notch talent is.

Minus Wilkes our recruiting class is solid, yet pedestrian. The key is if we miss Wilkes who do we replace him with?

Lol I know I am. The sun will come up tomorrow and kid will make a decision. This isn't quite on the level of angst of Zeller being the first true Indiana kid we wanted bad, but it's getting there. Until then it is heavy doses of reverse psychology to not get let down in the event he decides Los Angeles is more appealing.

I think the worst thing about losing Wilkes if we lose him is we aren't going up against MSU, UK or Duke here. We're going up against teams like us whose best days are in the distant past and whose coaches were under fire last year.

But that's the thing. Is a Freshman Kris Wilkes going to make or break changing that perception that you agree is already there? With him or without we will still have that until we win 5 titles in 3 years. There is no changing that. There is no such thing as a program changing recruit. We have had strong contributions from every class since Crean has been here. Some better than others. I am hopeful and confident we are in a good position, but don't expect him to be a savior of this program or its perception.

Wilkes won't be a savior. Very few recruits really are. Ben Simmons is a perfect example, and Wilkes isn't on the same planet as Simmons. He missed the national team or whatever it was. He is a super athlete with great size. He will help any team but he isn't a polished player as much as some others.

Ceiling is high.

Agreed. Just have to win. Wilkes is a great talent, but as a Frosh will not be the man on a title team. Will be a great addition, but the beefs we as a fan base will not be solved or killed by him. Talent around him and coaching will have to get better. I do like the position we are in on him and other 2018 kids for sure though.

I wasn't saying Wilkes would be a savior I was saying so often we lose against top ranked recruits because they are wowed by recent success or recruits are worried about whether or not Crean will be fired.

Thats not happening now. All our usual excuses for losing out of top talent will be gone with Wilkes.
