At Illinois most recently I believe.

I hope Crean and staff are aware of the quotes and take them seriously. This last part I guess is somewhat encouraging????

It is of note that there is almost a month long break between Wilkes' visit to Indiana and those he has scheduled with Xavier (Oct. 28) and UConn (Nov. 3). Wilkes knows that the schools he has already visited will really turn things up during that break and when asked if he could commit before taking all five visits he said that he hadn't yet decided if he would end up taking all five visits.

With his decision looming, Wilkes has locked in on a few key areas and he's looking forward to signing early.

“I think what I’ve learned is to know that players are going to be there," said Wilkes. "That’s a key thing. That and the coaching and as long and everybody keeps things like they show me when I go on visits then I will like it and if they don’t I won’t. It’s just getting to know them all better as coaches. I’m all about relationships.”

It sounds like stuff that used to come out of O$U.  I can't remember everyone on that staff but they worked hard to point out things wrong with IU...

Oh weiirdddd. There's a connection there :)

 

Groce is notorious for this. Combination of knowing how these two work (Groce/negative and Kris/likes to mess w the media)and just the recruiting history led me to see the comments the other way though. Groce scrambled because he's behind. He knows IU is ahead, but not sold, and needs to put some doubt there. And that second  paragraph about "needing to get to know the staff" is Wilkes throwing a curveball. He knows what IU and the staff is about, I promise that.

They've popped up on some highly rated players' lists since Groce has been there. Remember when Cliff Alexander was down to them and Kansas? (picked up their hat and put it back; good times) He probably has some pretty slimy connections from his OSU days. Fortunately, his piss-poor record at Illinois does all the talking now. 

 

Remember when Illinois fans used to come on our boards and gloat about how they were a superior program and we were super huge rivals? I heard there's a remote corner of the Internet where NOVA, TeamworkOrange and VittumIllini gather with other morbidly depressed UI fans and plot how they're going to someday be good again.
