(2017) SF Kris Wilkes to UCLA

Recommended Posts

I'm still thinking IU pulls it off.

List seems like Purdue, IU, Arizona, UNC, UConn, UCLA.

Probably some others.

His tweet seems like a signal to say, "if you haven't offered yet, hurry up"

Sadly rankings are partly correlated to offer sheets and everyone loves rankings. Vicious cycle.

I believe we pull it off in the end and that could influence Scruggs or vice versa. I think he realizes he can be that wing scorer we'll need and he can showcase his skills for the next level.

No Michigan? I thought they were the leader. It'll be interesting to see who else offers.

My list was a guess. UM probably on there too. Forgot some.

No inside source but I really don't think Michigan is in this very strong. A UM reporter was telling people it's them but I don't see it. Seems like IU, Xavier, UCLA, UNC, Washington, Arizona, Uconn.

I'm pretty optimistic about our chances but that's mostly wishful thinking

I'm not liking where this is going with ANY of the instate recruits. I don't know what we have to do to keep these guys at home. I do like seeing that we are top 5 on so many out of state kids lists. Is there no such thing of state pride anymore? I believe that with some of these homegrown kids, such as Wilkes, they want to hold out on decisions so they don't incur the wrath state school supporters, classmates and others. Could you imagine trying to play your senior season being booed everywhere you play or hassled while out with your friends because you didn't want to stay home and play? Don't know what CTC has to do to get these kids to commit. He has shown that he can get players to the NBA. He plays a style of basketball that is attractive to most. Get back with me this spring, but I say we get none of these guys. Oh well. Go get the kids who want to play here and we will continue to do it that way! Go IU!

Exactly. Crean has done all he can, has been on him since day 1, offered him immediate starting spot. Shown last year he can beat the big boys in the ncaa.

Recruiting had changed and continues to change for so many reasons. A few are shoe companies, nationally televised games and reporting, one and done factories, etc.

I would prefer an in-state kid all else being equal. However, the most important thing is a high character kid who fits the system.

This is exactly how I feel. It would be great to get in-state kids, but it's just not the same anymore.  I know we all want championships, and keep holding out to end the big long drought, but we have to do it without potential issues.  You can't always predict how things will turn out, but you still have to be careful.  Just hope we can get Wilkes in, that would be a huge turn in recruiting for IU imo.

We are doing it the right way and while not as fast as some would like we are winning and beating teams like Kentucky in the big dance. To me that is huge. I am so pumped to see our TB and OG along with all our very capable Hoosiers play this year. Go IU!

To be honest this is an attitude that I hate. Kentucky fans were mocking us for this very attitude and they were right to. Beating an overrated 4 seed in the round of 32 isn't an accomplishment that should be celebrated and touted as fodder for impressing recruits.

Dont get me wrong I enjoyed beating them in the round of 32 but it wasn't that impressive.  If we had beaten the Kentucky team from a year earlier that would be a different story

We are sadly still at a point where we have to sell kids on what we can be other than what we are. Wilkes could help put an end to that though because with him we should be able to field 3 straight big ten contenders/champions.

What is particularly frustrating I think for some is that after the Zeller and Yogi commits in back to back years we thought we had retaken our backyard and it sadly wasn't the case.

This years Kentucky team was the best 4 seed in the tournament. And yes I agree with you, we shouldn't be too proud of a second round victory to advance to the sweet 16, but the fact that it was our rival, and a team that steals many recruits is why it is brought up so often.
