im on record not loving our PG decisions either, although I was optimistic about Conerway.  Still think I like him more than Enright at times.  
 

We could have done a lot of things to bolster this roster and team but instead spent 1-3 million to ride the bench the entire season.

The other 8 are already getting paid. Who knows what the freshmen are getting. They  are elite 5 star one and dones. So they shouldn’t be breaking the bank. So say 2.5-3 for the other 8. Ristic and Acimovic can’t get NIL so they are freebies. Unless the rules have changed about foreign players and NIL. 
 

if the rule hasn’t change it’s smart to go get some high end Serbians that only get the profit sharing. Then the NIL can be concentrated on getting even better talent than otherwise would be available.

What do we have in Jason Drake? His stats are decent. I haven’t watched any film on him but expect solid backup just by looking at his numbers.

Very curious to find out what connections our staff has for the TP.   I’ll get my hopes up again for a minute.  LOTS of good players out there.

Someone on another site posted a timeline of when each coach was hired and when most of the players committed with most the top players committing before the April 7th clearinghouse hearing and  it really showed that IU was behind the 8 ball with DeVries and Adam’s 13 days after DeVries was hired as the only ones on the staff before that deadline besides Norton.    I would advise people to wait until this next cycle before holding judgment however I can understand peoples frustration and not waiting giving where IU has a program is nowadays in the college basketball landscape

You would think between Kenny Johnson and Rod Clark that they should have connections to plenty of talent that could become available. Hopefully talks start happening soon. I’d rather them give Carr a few days to review some tape on the current squad and formulate a plan for the roster before starting to wheel and deal in the background pre portal.

They are but they are getting mid major money.   There are workarounds the rule

Haven’t heard a number.  Will it translate?  That’s the question.  
 

Goode got 400k by the old standards. Rates doubled this off-season approximately.  So power 5 Starters, approx 250-1M.  All conference type players closer to 2-3M.  My guess is power 5 bench guys are 100-250.   I could see Drake being in that realm, but just a guess.  

And the foreign guys are getting paid.  But budget friendly.

Im just using these names for no other reason than their familiar but for example think of if instead of Tucker our big name splash land was Lendeborg and our center was somebody serviceable like Reneau instead of Bailey. Even with Enright and Dorn starting and a weak bench we’re probably something like a 6-8 seed.  
 

Lots of pressure this year because going 1 for 3 in big name signings puts us on the brink of missing the tourney again. 

Reneau is much better than serviceable. He’s averaging 19 a game and has been one of the most effective inside scorers in the country during his college tenure. We’re a top 20 team with Reneau.

From what was reported the staff was fine with the 11 they had. When Goode and Leal didn’t get approved they took flyers on 2 internationals that they knew would be developmental pieces and both sides knew that going into it

Yeah DeVries screwed the pooch by not getting the staff he was targeting and waiting around for what seemed like an eternity to get who he got.  He swung for the fences and landed on the warning track somewhere.  Similar to his HS recruiting for 26.  
 

It turned into a mess and the signings, short of Wilkerson, were all mostly underwhelming.  
 

No doubt there’s hope to improve.  Need to try to build a top 20 roster instead of a bubbly roster like they did this year.  Need higher ceiling players.  Been saying this for a year.

It’ll be $12.5mil (minus) what the returnees make. Not $12.5mil (plus) the returnees.  
 

The hope is you get your guys that are happy to be here at a slight bargain vs the open market.

Yup.  Plus a shot blocker/rebounder and we would have had a real team.

I still think to be a middle of the Pack BiG 10 team we need 2 elite players and 3 big 10 caliber starters. We are going to finish as a double digit Big 10 seed. I would like us to be around a 6 seed in the Big 10 tourney next year.

I hope we’re actually able to have 4 shooters on the court next year. Get an elite PG somehow. I know we value 3 pointers but honestly outside of Lamar we’re not a good shooting team this year especially with how streaky tucker has been

That was obviously a huge miscalculation. No idea why you would get roster filler from Europe other than you didn’t spend your money wisely. Other teams like Illinois, Virginia, Louisville among others went and got real talent from Europe and most of them are impact bigs.  
 

Just a new era that some coaches were positioned for and others weren’t.

The pacers drafted Taelon Peter this year who I had never heard of before. He played at Liberty and has been better than expected. Hopefully Carr is able to find some diamonds in in the rough like that for cheap because there are definitely more possibilities out there as compared to the nba draft or free agency

Illinois has been using Europe for awhile now so they have an established relationship.   I’m guessing the others had their staff in place and might have had staff members with relationships.    I would need to go back and see when those players committed for those teams.   IU late in the game once their staff was completed went after 2 late in the cycle.  Interested to see how this cycle will shake out
