Next Years Team

Okay, something other than who the next coach will be.  

Of the list below of current players who do we feel will be back.  Outside of Sisley and Zrno who is staying and who is going.

 

Staying:

Reneau, cupps and maybe one more.  I don't have a good feeling with any of them staying. I get that depending on who the coach is that could change things.  I heard someone say that Goode was looking for another year.  Not sure if that was true or just someone talking.

Dose a current college coach who has been recruiting help vs a coach like stevens?

This is strictly opinion and speculation:

Seniors - Obviously gone (except Goode might be a long shot)

Juniors - I have a feeling Reneau sticks around for his Senior year.

Sophs - This gets interesting.  Carlyle stays (paid too much), Cupps I feel will get more PT somewhere else, Mgbako moves on, Rice stays (again paid too much).

Freshman - Newton moves on, Tucker is already as good as gone.

'25 - '26 - Goode (?), Reneau, Carlyle, Rice, Sisley, Zrno

Hello portal and maybe the new coach (if college level) brings some studs with him.

I think Goode's chances of getting another year are 0%.......wait, as close to 0% as possible.  Don't want @Home Jersey riled up.

As far as I know.... we don't have to pay anyone the same amount we're paying them now. Do we know what Carlyle is being paid? 

If anyone is overpaid, it's probably MM. 

I hope Tucker stays.

On the fence about Carlyle and Rice.  The money may be enough to keep them.  

From a player perspective do we think a current college big name is better or a name like Stevens.  I think there are plays both ways.

 

I really like Tucker and will hate if move on.

With a new coach coming in, you may as well have a blank board and say there is opportunity for change.  Nobody under scholarship is 100% coming back.  Would be really surprised if more than a handful come back.  I guarantee teams are already talking to MgBako, Reneau, etc.

Maybe we need to restate it, who will actually pay Carlyle to transfer?

Maybe that's why he stays.  Wasn't he the one transfer they were hoping to get last year? Sheesh.

Agreed on Tucker.  I think he has a very high ceiling.

What aspect is weighted heavily as a player.  The money, the coach, the connection to the NBA, Degree?

I think it is obviously different for each player, but it will be interesting to see what plays out.

Of the coaches we have as a potential, who has the best recruiting class so far.  It is possible that some will follow the coach.

Cupps is outta here. And some of the other guys it won't matter if they want to stay or not. It won't really be their choice.

Doesn't matter what some are getting paid this year.  Next coach may decide they're only worth a fraction of that and they'll be gone.   IMO Reneau and Rice may stick around but I think everyone else moves on.

Maybe a clean slate is the best option all around.  I would love to keep a core..

Of the rebuilds recently, (UK, UL, UM) who had complete roster turn over.  For some reason I was think UL had a huge turnover for year 1.

Yes, Louisville has a new coach and 12 new players... 

Not sure what to expect with next year's team... possible returnees:

Rice, Reneau, Tucker, Carlyle, Mgbako, Newton, Cupps

Cupps is rumored to be gone... Newton may never play again... Dad is shopping Tucker around, as well.

How much of the Rice, Carlyle, Mgbacko and Reneau - is their regression due to laziness, coaching or something else? Would the new guy keep any of them?

And of course, there are Sisley and Hrno.

Guys I’m okay being end of the bench guys for whatever reason: Cupps & Newton

Having said all that, there is not one player on this team I’d lose any sleep over if they left.

I think Mgbako will be gone but for me, i'd put him in the top list because I think there is something there.  I could see him at St. Johns with Pitino.   

I'd personally love to keep Reneau.  Rice and Tucker are kinda more in the category like Mgbako for me.

I can see your point. I did this exercise with my son about three weeks ago and names have changed places since then. Every time I do this I keep coming back to the same bottom line, I won’t shed a tear over any of these guys if they leave.
