A Portal Decision Test Case

Recommended Posts

There's a combo guard that is in the portal - lots of accolades.

Here are the career numbers:

  • FG .447 on high volume
  • 3Pt .329 on fairly low volume
  • FT% .837
  • A/to 1.5/1

What do you think @JSHoosier@Demo, @Trish, and others?

  1. Gotta have him
  2. No way - not good enough
  3. Not what we need, but a textbook Woodson recruit. So while it's disappointing, that's the type of guy we're ending up with
  4. Depends on the context

4.

not all numbers are the same nor is potential.  For instance, the guard from Texas Tech in the portal is a guy @Uspshoosier loves.  While his numbers give me pause, USPS’s endorsement and him having seen him play multiple times lends a further evaluation.

Obviously, additional context needed, but I’d be willing to bet that Tyson Walker’s stat line at Northeastern looked a lot like that. If you told me that mystery kid would come in and just own the team like Walker has I’d be down with no additional questions asked. Lacking that piece, would have to chew on it a little bit.

So, option for 4 for now, but maybe options 1-3?

I'll offer two more pieces of context:

  1. Strong leadership/team ownership skills
  2. Has had potential criminal legal problems

Parents are volatile.

Everyone is welcome to weigh in (of course). Again (son), the test case is:

Sexual assault. No criminal finding. Civil suit settled without public comment. Not a recent issue. (Not Terrence Shannon).

Hard pass.  There are a lot of players for us to choose from. The young man can rehab his reputation elsewhere.

Solid percentages, not sure who this lad is or his averages per game. But Indiana needs multiple shooters. Right now I can’t zero shooters on this team. Leal doesn’t count because he’s not a B1G rotational player.

However, I don’t trust Woodson to put an effective roster together whatsoever. It’s still shocking they haven’t landed a single transfer yet, meanwhile teams that made the tournament have landed transfer kids already.
