NCAA Women's Bball Transfer Portal

Recommended Posts

Watching Lucy Olsen clips gives me a "Paige Bueckers vibe". Not quite as tall, but can score in different ways from all over the floor.  She could step in for Sara Scalia, and might even be more of an all-around threat. But where Olsen wants to go, who knows? Where players want to play is obviously a determinative factor in the "short portal window". FYI: Olsen was a 3-star out of PA, and not an ESPN top 100 player. Gives hope to the "sleepers" out there, like Zach Edey, who can excel without the hype.

The more I wait to hear news, the more it is striking me that this is a very important portal for the IU women’s program. Bear with me: this is the last year when we will have a solid core of veteran returnees with proven success in CMM, Syd and Yarden. Although we all obviously love CTM and her success in building the program, we really haven’t parlayed our recent success into next level recruiting. I see Mich, Neb, OSU, Iowa all with McD’s AA’s coming in and outside of Iowa none have had the success we have in recent years. We still seem to hunt good program fits in the 50-100 range out of HS, and haven’t really had an impact frosh except for Yarden who was an international get. I think to climb the next tier from sweet sixteen team, to final four team were eventually gonna have to get more athletic impact young players out of HS. My concern is that if we don’t nail the portal this year, we finish a respectable 3-6 in the big ten and win a game or two in the tourney, and then lose Syd and Clhoe and start to slide back to mediocrity. I don’t want to see that happen. I trust CTM like most on here do, but talent is talent. We need to continue to upgrade it. We can’t rely on an underrated Holmes to walk in the door every four years and be generational talent. I hope we can compete in the portal and put together a team that can win another conference title and challenge the UConn’s, South Carolina’s, and LSU’s of the world so we can reload with some top 25 talent after next year.

Knock on Wood.  IU Ladies are holding steady for stability and should be program proud for no names on transfer portal this year.

200% agree.  And what has been created in the Assembly Hall gym with fan/crowd and facility support it seems that there has to be around top ten team level recruiting results should be the norm (development of lower level recruits only goes so far without elite level players blended in).  Assembly Hall experience is one that is like a Rock Stage performance.  (A growing monster has been about 85 to 90 % created….does it die off to that mid big ten range or grows to a 100% T-Rex).

(IU Ladies have made efforts to recruit elite players out of high school).  and IU Ladies are going to have to get a couple from transfer portal this year.

Plus T. Moren works with USA teams on national level.

Really hope we don't blow it like we did with IU Baseball. Just need to pump up the  NIL money and get one or two top players. Stanford's coach retiring also helps. It's ripe with opportunity.

I absolutely hope we can get a dynamic, scoring guard and a quality post player. Just two of the more top tier portal players. If we can do those two things we can keep right on trucking, because I think Lemondola and Beaumont can contribute. They need a longer leash play terrified they will be benched. Moren has us on the cusp of rising a level and being one of those consistent final 4 teams, but needs better and more ready recruits to contribute early. With the lack of media attention they get, it makes it more difficult to get the 5 stars. I find it embarrassing how little the regional media in the state promotes iuwbb. National media completely ignores it. They report on every single transfer portal player Woodson even speaks to, and he will probably lose all of them. Moren needs to bring in just a little and reload. Love going to iuwbb games. I’m scared that as soon as there’s a down year, the little attention they get local, regional, and nationally along with attendance at the games, and just fall to obscurity

Latest Lucy Olsen list who is making hardest push for her IU not listed though it could be who made the list….Iowa, Stanford, Tennessee, Maryland, Michigan, LSU, West Virginia

T. Moren and IU Ladies seem to be in prvivacy mode when it comes to transfer portal.

Blow it with baseball? huh.

IU has made the tourney six more times since they were right at the top. I don't know what you expected with a northern baseball team, but they have the most NCAA Appearances in Big Ten since they were at the top in College World Series.

I for one would be thrilled if Moren makes the tourney six of the next nine years and remains near the top of the conference. This year notwithstanding, I would gladly take what baseball became post Schwarber and College World Series as that would include another Big Ten Title, three more Sweet 16's (Regional Final which baseball has been to three times is the Final 16), a postseason appearance nearly ever year and remaining constantly competitive.

We should be so lucky if Moren keeps IU post-Holmes what baseball has done post-Schwarber. This year and one other notwithstanding I would kill for this. Not sure what you expected, but don't let the disappointment of this season make you think baseball fell off that much from their peak after the Schwarber World Series.

It also helps a lot that the Big Ten is a high major in women's basketball and among the power-five while in baseball it is the equivalent of a high mid-major similar to the Mountain West, AAC, or Atlantic 10.

Yeah those are excuses.  We could have been something special with good vision.  I know lot of SEC coaches would have jumped at the offer to be the coach at IU. Not saying we would be a national powerhouse but we could be a whole lot better. New stadium, an already shown formula that we could be a great program.... yeah we could have been the elite big ten program that gave it a good a run once every four years.  I swear part of the problem with the administration is lack of vision and the unwillingness to expand their circle.  They didn't interview anyone from the SEC. That's malpractice.  I know for a fact that there were some bright minds at UNC that would have jumped at the offer.

Demand better BUT be content with a genuine effort to be great. Try to be great.

For a northern team we have been pretty special. Find me a northern team in a northern conference who has been better than IU last decade. There is not one.

You think an SEC coach was leaving an SEC job to come to IU? If you mean an assistant they did that with Lemonis and he did pretty well. Like I said if you can find me a northern team in a northern conference who has made this home run hire to be a national power show me and I will apologize. Even Louisville has started falling off and they were closest thing as fringe northern team in a fringe north/south conference.

You have expectations that are totally unrealistic and live in a dream land with these expectations.

Why are all these players even from winning teams that play a lot and have good numbers want to transfer just decimating their team from last year???  I can’t imagine any better facility than what IU has plus the crowds especially at the big games.
Surely, significant additions will come from this transfer portal to IU Ladies program.

And that's why we're a mediocre program. Have some passion man. Raise the bar.

Then every single northern baseball team is more mediocre than IU.

I have raised the bar. I expect baseball and women's basketball to be a postseason team nearly every season now which is something neither had not sniffed before now. Also, remember baseball had to change coaches twice while Moren has made it clear she is a lifer here which helps immediately.

If Moren stops being competitive in the conference and misses postseason then get mad. If Mercer misses postseason this year he will rightly be on an extreme hot seat for 2025.

However, I'll repeat if women's basketball matches baseball's next decade after top success I will be more than happy as that would mean six NCAA Tourneys in nine seasons with three more Sweet 16's and another Big Ten Title. The other three seasons would see two of them on the bubble with a winning record, and one truly awful season. The women should be so lucky to reach that. Where do I sign on the dotted line now for this;)?

I don't expect them to be UConn women's basketball or LSU baseball going forward. If that is what you are expecting you have expectations that are wildly out of proportion. I have fairly high expectations as described above that are within reality.

39% 3-point shooter.  FYI for those that follow the women's program, you might consider following this X account.  Not limited to sports but I've seen it referenced as the Trilly Donovan of women's basketball.

IU LADIES most pressing need is a big complimented with Lilly.  My prediction is that a healthy Bargesser makes a big jump 2024-25 of improvement including scoring.

I'm so confused by his complaints. the baseball program is an issue currently? lol the women's basketball program is an issue? What am I reading!?

But Mercer isn't going to be on the hot seat after the injuries to Sinnard, Grable, Sheppard, and now Tibbitts. Not with how well he is recruiting.

Just being a casual fan of college baseball-- as @Banksyrules appears to be, you have to fully grasp the Northern School disadvantage we're at... it's real.
