Fire Coach Woodson Thread

After the Louisville debacle, I fired off an email to Dolson. This was his reply:

Mike,

Thank you for your email and for sharing your disappointment with the IU Men’s Basketball program and with Coach Woodson. As I’m sure you can appreciate, I have received other emails voicing similar sentiments to yours, and time constraints prevent me from responding to each and every point that you have made. But I want to at least assure you that I have received and read your email and take your concerns to heart.

I also want to note that I share your belief that the program should be competing at a much higher level than we displayed during our trip to the Bahamas. With that said, it’s only the first week of December. I believe that we have a great deal of talent on this year’s roster, and that this team will have every opportunity to come together in the next several months and compete at the level that we all expect for the program both within the Big Ten and in the NCAA Tournament.

Again, thank you for contacting me to voice your frustrations.

Definitely reads like he’s done if he doesn’t learn how to coach

The ironic thing I have actually been perpetually angry about just about everything except this

You are a good man, even in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

My new catchphrase when someone disagrees with me respectfully may now be "Why you so angry, Brass?" Will remind me of what is really worth being angry about and what barely matters and is for entertainment only.

Hope you're hanging in there friend.

For this team, a top three conference finish and a berth in the Sweet Sixteen. I’d be shocked if that happens however. Building a roster of portal guys offers too many opportunities for things to get off the rails. We’ll see if that’s what happens.

I agree, after B4A that is looking quite unlikely. They'd see teams of UL or Gonzaga quality is the round of 32 assuming they win the first round (which also assumes they even make the NCAAT).

Yet you wonder why people aren't happy. Hmm

That's actually a pretty frikkin cool response.

It is a well written comm. Never a good thing when somebody in comms has to write a generic/auto reply email about this topic (which has been the case since about Feb of last year). I appreciate the messaging as someone who helps write these sort of messages in a different context. Nice to see Scott’s office knows what temperature the room is.

Miller was far from a sure thing. We didn’t look beyond him and it hurt us badly. Had we been more diligent, he’d have never been hired. It was a failure of leadership.

Never said that he wasn't. But he was a damn sight more qualified than Mike Woodson. In every respect and against every metric.

If they end up on the bubble it might be tough given the weak non-conference schedule and getting pummeled in the Bahamas.

Fire him the second the final buzzer sounds in our last game. There’s no point in firing him now. The season was a lost cause when Dolson decided to bring him back for year 4.

I would love see Dolson walk out to midcourt after senior speeches and inform MW of the decision to go in a different direction...

These problems run WAY DEEPER than two game in November.

Getting scolded for not being pleased with the direction of the program is maddening AF. I graduated from IU and have been watching this program for over 40 years.

K with a C acts as if we all just started watching this season and are a bunch of petulant children because we're seemingly demanding change only because we pooped our pants in the Bahamas.

THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT TWO GAMES IN NOVEMBER!!!

I was only saying that it was futile to expect a firing in early December based on the panicky response from two lousy games in late November. Dolson is never going to do that and that really set a few people off into a rage. I get that people are upset because we played poorly and the program isn’t moving forward under Woodson, but it isn’t going to magically create a different response or result. Interesting to be attacked for saying what I know to be true, but that’s the nature of internet fan sites.

I see I did my job now has an unranked team. Meanwhile purdue is 8th and Wisconsin is 11th. I bet Woodson spent more on nil than those two combined.

I despise this argument as there is ONE person responsible for assembling the roster, and his name is Mike Woodson.  If I did a half-@$$ job of assembling and coaching my team in the professional setting there would be repercussions...why is this different?
