Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker accused of sexually harassing rape survivor

Recommended Posts

Geez -- you go to Twitter, er X, and search for Mel Tucker and you'll find several outlets reporting he has been fired. But ESPN and The Athletic say "Not so fast, my friend."

According to them, it's a paid suspension pending the outcome of an investigation.

I saw they had a morality clause included in his contract. So maybe no compensation will be due.

^^This^^

Beyond the complete lack of judgment or human decency by Tucker, this is a dream come true for MSU as an institution. They were so stuck with a crappy football coach with a ridiculously expensive long-term contract.

And now they're not.

Question (not so fast) is how ironclad is morality clause…and if lawyer/s get involved since it’s a significant amount of money…will there ultimately be some kind of settlement?….which would be a lot more money than if he got a job at a place like McDonalds…. And besides this situation if and when will the next coaching gig be?  Pro or wherever?  These situations seem to not be so cut and dry as in your fired get out of here and you won’t receive nothing.

It's like many employment settlements; a balancing test of

  • how ironclad is the 'no-payment' clause?

vs.

  • how much is it worth to break quickly and cleanly without litigation?

I have some suggestions for what you should do to whoever told you that. It involves a dull axe and a tree stump.

As for Mich State athletics? Firing them into the sun is too generous.

In that case, I'm putting the whole of the NCAA on the tree stump as that's who I was referring to.

I read the original article from Saturday that broke this...don't see how he coaches another game.

During his interview with the investigators...Mel Tucker shared that he had been told by a confidential source, that a famous ESPN Investigative journalist was looking into her past sexual trauma/rape, trying to cast doubt on what happened to her and her character.

That same investigative journalist from ESPN has come out and said that she has never been a subject for any investigation/reporting, and has no idea why Mel Tucker would say that or try to bring her into this situation.

He also reportedly lied about several other items...like being at home when the phone call happened, with records showing he was in fact in Florida. His lawyers are also trying to argue the school cannot police what its employees do in their free time, with the argument being that the Florida trip was non-school related and on his own dime...yet he submitted an expense report to the school for the golf charity event and marked the trip as "administrative".

He's done.

Oh good lord what a dirtbag. He was already done at MSU. The additional info will determine whether he can get another job ... ever.

And if other lawsuits or complaints from other women don't come out soon I'll be pretty surprised.

"During the interview, Tucker also made an explosive new allegation: He said his associate had told him that renowned ESPN investigative reporter Paula Lavigne was investigating the veracity of the gang-rape story at the heart of Tracy’s public persona. The information, Tucker said, made him question how Tracy “goes about her business.”

Veidlinger did not address this allegation in her report, but Lavigne denied the allegation.

“Neither (Tracy's) organization nor Tracy is or has been the target of any investigative reporting,” Lavigne said in a statement to USA TODAY. “I’m perplexed that Mel Tucker would respond to a complaint of sexual harassment by involving me or ESPN.”

Regardless, whether this high level character human being coaches another game at MSU or anywhere on any level…curious to how much money he ends up with when all dust settles and it’s all said and done (and attorney fees for them).

side note:  Though there are truly many high level character individuals in all levels of society…there sure is much corrupted low character very low individuals and (groups) on the opposite end of the character spectrum…suppose as always has been.

Did anyone else notice the timeline here?

December 2022 the complaint is made and an investigation is started.

July 2023 the the investigation is finished.

Only after it becomes public via a USA Today article in September is he suspended.

MSU just doesn't change.
