Class of '66 Old Fart

IUWBB vs Iowa - Thursday, 2/9/23 @ 6:30 on BTN

Recommended Posts

Here's another truth bomb for you, and for the Iowa Women's team:

  • Last year, we lost all three to Iowa
  • All three losses were by seven or fewer points
  • Mackenzie Holmes was coming off of her knee injury and playing limited minutes
  • Mackenzie Holmes averaged 10.7ppg and 4.3 rpg against Iowa
  • Iowa center Monica Czinano, averaged 28 ppg and 8.7 rpg in the three games against IU, about 30% over her season average
  • Mackenzie Holmes is now averaging 22ppg and 7.7 rpg

Czinano is the one we need to slow down.  Keep Clark somewhat in check but don't obsess with defending her.  Focus on significantly cutting Czinano's production.

Run her up and down the court.

Yes, it was obvious and T. Moren has eluded to this noting pieces were there last year but Holmes was limited.

From the Wilson Moore, Indianapolis Star article this afternoon.

“I do think there’s us understanding that we’re gonna get everybody’s best down the stretch,” Moren said. “We’ve continued to get that, and Iowa’s not gonna be any different. But I do think being able to make some of the hustle plays, and us being able to adjust. They’re gonna do some things different defensively on us as well. Just making the right decision. The next right decision for us is gonna be important.”

Out hustle, outthink should be the recipe for a big W.

Wow

An example of what T.Moren is saying…and Marquette record shows it’s not that good…however as the college women basketball game is developing and has developed roll over games are going to be less as more capable teams or good teams are increasing.  Bring your best game night in and night out.

Just halftime, but #4 UConn trails Marquette 27-22 at Marquette.  Can't imagine there's been too many times that Geno has lost 2 games in a row.

Called that one.

Re-tweet from Osterman -

And so ends perhaps the most impressive streak in college basketball history. Marquette beats No. 4 UConn 59-52 . The Huskies have lost consecutive games for the first time since March, 1993.
