Class of '66 Old Fart

(2024) - PG Travis Perry to Kentucky

Recommended Posts

Lyon County captures the 2nd Region Championship and moves into Kentucky's Sweet 16 with its next game on March 16.  Last night in the Region semifinal they defeated Christian County 76-53.  There was a substantial gap in the game stream and I've yet to see any final game stats posted.  From what I did see, I scored Perry with 23p which included 11-14 FT.

Tonight, Lyon County beat Hopkinsville 76-70.  Perry was well-guarded and only 2-9 on 3s.  He was 9-10 FT going 6-7 in the 4th Q.  I also had him with 4r; 2a; 2s; 1t.

As soon as his stats are updated on the KHSAA website I'll pass them along.

That streaming gap in his 76-53 win over Christian Co. was apparently much longer than I thought.  From what little I saw, he scored 23p.  For the game he finished with 41 on 10-18 FG; 9-13 on 3s; 12-14 FT.  He also had 7 assists.   Couple of comments from The Paducah Sun.  "Over a 45-second span, Perry drilled three shots from behind the arc to put the Lyons up 11-10."  "Travis Perry put on a show in the third, scoring 20 points in the quarter. He hit four of five from behind the three-point line and 8 of 8 at the free-throw line."

In the championship game vs Hopkinsville which Lyon Co. won 76-70, Perry had a game high 33 and is just 21 away from becoming the state's all-time leading scorer.  This was Lyon County's 16th straight win and are now 30-5 on the season.

Perry needed 21 pts. to break the record and he didn't get the record breaking point until 3:48 left in the game as Newport did a good defensive job on  him.  But they couldn't stop the rest of the Lyon team as 2 teammates recorded double doubles in a 61-46 win over Newport.  This evening, Lyon Co. will play defending state champion George Rogers Clark in a quarterfinal game.  Semifinal games will be played tomorrow morning/afternoon and the championship game tomorrow night.

Wait, they play the C-ship game the SAME DAY as the Semi-final?!?  Kentucky= what you get when an entire state has fetal alcohol syndrome.

Perry's season came to an end last night in a 60-56 loss to George Rogers Clark.  All 5 GRC starters finished in double figures and the team was 12-24 on 3s.  And its defense held Perry to 19 pts.  Lyon County finished 31-6 and returns 4 of its starting 5 next season.

Perry had a tough shooting night just 7-19 FG and 4-13 on 3s.  He did add 3 assists and 4 steals.
